I haul whatever they send me, dry, reefer, doesn't matter, but dry loads I do tend to be more.drop and Hook vs length.

The thing is though, when you add up the time spent on the skinny roads with the time to drop and Hook, and the number of time one does it during a week on those shorthauls, is it really more more miles?

I am leaving home tomorrow, I live in DE, 50 mile deadhead to NJ to pick up a reefer load, take it to VA, deliver it early Sat. am, then reload and head to City of Industry CA for Thursday Delivery.

So 1 week, two loads, getting me from home into the freight lanes. It's a little low, only 3000 miles or so, but 4 docks in 7 days, at an average of 2 hrs per dock (this one will be less) that's 8 hrs, or just over an hour per day.

How does that stack up to Drop and Hook time over a 7 day period?

    landshark80 Thanks this.

I don't know why Lumpers would be an issue... I am pretty sure Knight will pay them.

I recommend reefer. I started with Knight on reefer side and did really well. The money I made there has allowed me to move onto other things. My first calendar year driving was with them and I made 65,200.00. I was like you and didn't take much time off, 4-6 weeks out 3 days off.

Big-M Transportation might hire you for refrigerated. They've been know to cut some slack for a driver.

I just consider them an annoyance. Having to call in to authorize the check, etc. And they often take forever to unload.

But yeah, those VA to CA loads would make up for all that and then some.

Getting an authorization code is a lot less taxing on me than dragging 40k of freight off a trailer and separating and tagging it LOL, but yes, there are some places they can be a little slow.

All in all though I just tend to kick back and let them do their thing.
