Just wanted to give anybody interested some insight on how it was pulling Walmart trailers.
I guess a whole bunch of us got sent down there to the walmart dc in southern CA and got put on this dedicated walmart account.
We all got there with our tractors. They then sat us down in this orientation room. We watched a bunch of videos. They had the operations mngr do a class on safety/rules/procedures etc. We were assigned temporary driver id's, a load board and dispatcher.
Operations was a joke. There was 6 dispatchers and planners handling the entire dc. Treatment was ok (not great) and the right hand never knew what the left hand was doing there.Like, the BIG grocery store trying to be a full fledged trucking company. But even the slang was off. Like multiple stop loads are called "two stoppers" at walmart, and a drop yard a "center point" i was like huh?? The paperwork was confusing. The runs were short haul (most of the time) ...like 50-250 miles.
Were got payed salary.
$175 per day regardless of what you did. Could of been 1 load or 3 loads in one day. whatever.
All in all, it was cool. We got the kind of respect any truck driver would get. Like "we need you".
Walmart trailers are in really, really good shape. They even have a self inflating tire system.
Walmart drivers were conceded and try to "punk" outside drivers around. Most of them were older folk (no offense, my dad is older too) They even tried to school me on how to park a bobtail. ?
The yard dogs were actually the nicest ones there at every distribution center. really cool guys and very, very helpful.
Anyway, happy trails.![]()

is this a small scale thing or are they planning on doing more of this? did they underbid cr?
-
But yea, it's a temporary on/off type deal. -
What DC was that,Im guessing with those miles it was Porterville. Is 175.00 considered a good days pay at Knight,Im not sure what you guys are getting per mile. Those wally drivers were most likely making twice that and some even more. I have seen some Landstar agents offering 1.60 a mile plus FSC for all miles while round tripping trailers out of some of the other Walmart DC's. It is pretty gravy work being all drop and hook.

That's not a real good rate unless you luck out and only get a couple of hours worth of work.

Swift did the same thing when I was with them years ago and it was one of the worst experiences with them. Myself and about 12 other drivers were forced to go there to some place in southern CA,Troutdale I think, and sat there unpaid for 14 hours before we were finally trained(basically told that we were dumber than monkeys)dispatched out and WALMART could run us for as long as they wanted, until we were "Released" I had a dispatcher scream and swear at me in front of everybody in there, because one of their Drivers said I was driving too slow on the freeway(I was doing 55, the speed limit). I did that for 2 weeks before they "released" me. All in all it could have been great. I mean all I did was drop and hook. The miles weren't very good but Everything was planned out very well and I always had a window in which to deliver, not a set time. I just really hated how I was treated by Walmart Their DC centers and their drivers.
