Umm, the wisest thing I have is I stayed company.

Will say though, with a decent head on your shoulders, a willingness to learn from mistakes, not fear asking what you dont know, critical thinking skills and the drive to succeed and the patience to learn the lanes, you'll do fine.

Well I've been told I do have a decent head on my shoulders. I remember being called Fathead in grade school.

Actually that's some pretty sound and concise advice. I appreciate it.

    No doubt.

I would be honored to have your no BS opinion on starting with Choice now. I've read a lot of your stuff.

I realize I run the risk of being viewed as the personification of the expansion of the program, but I'm asking anyway.

A new policy? So unless you are leasing your truck thru Schneider Finance you are not considered for Choice? In other words no outside lease trucks?

I have been on the fence with getting into trucking for 2 years, before that upping my captains licenses and crewing or running a tug in the Gulf with the oil industry.

Well we all know how that worked out.

Been on this site picking every posters Brain who would give me the time of day the last 2 years.

Ton of information here and all the guys are very willing to help, great Frikin guys here, some of the absolute best that I would love to buy a steak and a few beers for someday.

Soo. Why lease on. If you have been living in a truck for a year or 2 I would hope you have 30 grand somewhere.

If you are mechanical buy a decent pre egr truck for 20 and put 10 in it to have a decent truck .

If you are not , And you already stated that trucking is your life whether you like it or not. Go buy a new glider.

Sign on with Landstar or Mercer and run with it.

Why do a lease with a company that is getting very competitive with their freight and picky with who they send the good loads to , meanwhile your lease puts you in Bed with them.

I have not driven 1 mile but been in many business adventures, some good many not so good.

If you have the experience and the money be the Captain of your own Ship.

My dad who is the King Entrepreneur and made all of his 8 kids just like him expressed this to us .

Be your Own Boss. It's not about the money it's not about the benefits which I don't get but that's another story.

It's about the control of your life.

You can make as much as you want or not want . But most importantly you can schedule your time off that you desire.
But being self employed means you work hard until the job is done come Hell or Highwater when it is required.

It's a Great way of Life . You will like it ,TRY IT

Tommy I appreciate you taking the time. But it seems to me you are really thinking about your own plan, how you would do it. Not what is best for me. That's hard for you to know, because you don't know anything about me.

A lease is as far as I want to go into trucking at the moment. Choice will give me much more control over my life than I have now, although I am well aware I will not be the captain of my own ship. The BS in trucking is a constant, that much I know.

I was laughing to myself when I was writing a post above about the cost of the Volvo. Maybe I could save up the 56k for the buyout, and maybe I will. But I started to let my mind wonder about what I could do with 56K in the bank, other than pay off a truck.

Costa Rica came to mind. I've never been. Girls in grass skirts (Steve McQueen in Papillon) Learn to count cards and turn it into a million. I do have other interests...

This would be a good move for me now, if the bottom doesn't drop out of the program. I'm inclined to think it won't, and I could make a go of it a lot easier than guys who have more responsibilities.

The people I have dealt with at Schneider thus far have been genuinely nice people. My safety record and on time record are excellent, but my apps were not perfect on either the job side or the credit side. I consider it an opportunity.

Remember, and this will be on my truck somewhere if permitted, "A Man in Motion Has a Chance". I just made it my sig.

Good luck to you as well.

Grass skirts. Beautiful girls in Cuba I have enjoyed many of these things in life. And want to continue with that lifestyle .

Why sign on for a lease unless you have no money?

There is not a thing that Schneider Choice can do for you that you could not do with a good truck and a good company like Mercer or Landstar.

Tommy, the why is usually very simple. Bad life choices have left a guy with no money and very bad credit. Instead of putting in the effort to fix those mistakes the vast majority of people would rather go for the instant gratification and jump in a high priced zero down no credit check deal. This is also why there are very few who successfully complete a lease purchase. By going for the instant gratification they denied themselves the opportunity to learn from their previous mistakes, and most importantly how not to repeat them.

Basically deep down we are all a bunch of immature kids and won't learn how grow up into responsible adults until we stop reaching for that easy button.
