Pretty much that how a Cummins Mech who builds engines explained to me at the KC office. I did a cam on a engine with a CPL in 2300 series. Cost 5200 truck had 495k miles on it 2010 t660. Small HP engines are built with cheap metals.
    2. There is a huge difference between a CM870 and the engine you have. At the end of the day your CPL rating determines how much power you can put on the engine. If its not designed for the HP your engine loses alot of life rather that be 2yrs 5yrs or whatever. You can add a new heart to a patient that doesnt make them a kid again

CPL is Critical Parts List it determines the strenght and quality of parts in the engine. Heavy haul truck have a cpl of of 3k or higher due to extreme work loads they do. Higher CPL higher value

Megas detune for fuel . At the end of the day your torque remains the same its just reconfigured to a different power band. Example factory torque is at 1800. When a fleet put a fuel program in that engine it moves the torque of 1800 to 1200rpms on a cummins allowing it to pull sooner under low RPM. You ever notice a truck from a dead stop pull from a stop and run away with a heavy load that why torque was moved to lower power band
