Kinda missed my point. Whenever a new model comes out people complain because it’s different than what’s available now. And you’re fooling yourself if you think people didn’t lose their mind when the 379 replaced the 359, not so much the outside, it was losing the round dash.

Look at the trends. Everything is going towards a wide based cab. The narrow cab options from Paccar won’t be around forever.

I remember when the issue of Heavy Duty Trucking showed up in the mail with a silver T600 on it. My dad said KW wasted their money because nobody would buy one. Fast forward about a year and Brakebush is running T600’s with Aero 1 bunks and my dad was thinking he needed a T600. Just takes time to get used to a new model.

But you don’t see the 379 being sold alongside the 389 do you? If they are talking the W900 being replaced, my money is on it’s going to happen.
Back in 2002 I was at Dallas Peterbilt looking to trade my 379 in on a new one. The sales guy told me they were going to be replacing the 379 with the 389. It took, what, 5 years? But it did happen.

And why they didn't just throw a corvette dash in the 379s I don't understand, but I get what you're saying.

What’s going on with that air intake on the side of the hood? Looks like a cross between the one on the t600 and some sad attempt at trying to resemble a chrome air cleaner tank. It looks like a t880 set forward axle model for the most part, just with a boxier hood and uglier grill. Not the ugliest truck I’ve seen but definitely not the prettiest.

Because it’s a new model would be my guess. If they’re bringing out a new model why recycle parts? They know people may not buy it right away but they will buy it eventually.

Sometimes bold steps turn out to be best sellers. 1988 the FLD120 came out, sfa and sba options. Freightliner didn’t offer the Classic for a few years and look at how many FLD’s they sold over the years. I realize this new KW isn’t really a fleet truck, but my point is people complain, and then they buy it.

Back then people got a long hood because the engine required it, like a 3408 or 12v92. Although they look better than the standard hood, they for the most part, wouldn't buy it unless it needed it.

On the other hand, I have seen both 379 exhd and W900L with c12 engines. That would not have happened when they changed from the a to the b.

The 389 once again is a recycled 379, not a completely different truck. They do sell the 579sffa and the 389. The 579sffa ia Peterbilt's version of this W990. Yes, it's a short hood, but it's the same cab. If you were talking about an updated version of the W9, like going from a to b, then what you're suggesting is a good comparison, but it is completely replacing.
