1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for all of the input I've received over the past 10 months. It's been a great help.

I now have a major problem: Company only verified me as a Local Driver.

Which is true since I've only driven in FL, GA, and SC.

I'm willing to go over the road but I don't want to be used and abused as a brand new driver. In 2 months I will have had my CDL for a year.

The main reason I'm looking before then ( 1 year of service ) is the company I work for has closed down 4 terminals in the last 3 weeks and layed off about 75 drivers. I don't want to one day have a job, and the next day not have a job. Pretty easy to understand.

Who will hire me other than a local employer but not team me up with someone for 3 months and I do all the driving.

I live in Jacksonville, Fl and freight here sucks. I'm willing to be OTR for 2-3 weeks at a time.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Unfortunately you will likely have to go out with a trainer. Reason mountains and high wind areas. Most trainers will treat you much different than a fresh from school driver. The more difficult problem might be that a number of companies have a hiring freeze for FL.

    RickG Thanks this.
