And please to everybody who reads this please take a moment to secure the bottom of your ladder to the trailer before climbing up if no one is around to spot you, it will take 3 minutes total but can save you from big injuries. The higher you climb, the greater the push out on those legs. It looks nerdy, I get it, but falling just plain sucks

Look in the picture at how ridiculous my old 13' ladder is for a 14'load. You still have to lean the ladder so it's not actually 13' tall.

Are the leg slides fully extended? I wouldn’t work off of that. Once you get on the top half you will pivot off of the trailer. It must have happened to you before with others

Show that picture to the safety critter, I see a ladder in your future. That is a 100% preventable workplace fall

You can try to expense the ladder on your taxes as safety equipment like workboots. My boss welcomes all those safety stuff invoices, his accountant submits them and the government can’t really argue with it. That’s bad for you drivers. Here in Quebec the CSST (OHSA) carries a big stick. Who pays you for the broken collar bone. Any other workplace that gets fixed quickly.

Here for safety violations the fine the worker around 300, but the company gets a close to 2000 dollar spanking for failure to provide proper training

Flatbed trucking in the USA has a lot of gray areas. Mostly it's anything goes and once you sign the BOL, it's "see you later, there's the securement area, goodbye ".. there are companies that are more strict than that. But it's not across the board.
