As a new Driver to Swift and graduating from there Academy in San Antonio I can say that my being assigned out of Lancaster sucks. The Terminal Manager there is a Pompous ###. And My DM was not any better. I was out for 2 weeks and drove a whopping 1750 miles. I spent most of my time running little bitty short runs 01 miles to 05 miles, Then sent on wild goose chases for MTs. Got into it with my DM about my so called loads. and a week later I am called in and put on Safety hold. Was told to take a week off. Well its been two going on three weeks now. If I were to go back to them I now will have to go through orientation again. Is it just Lancaster? Or is it the whole company that oks this kind of treatment? I was so excited about going to school and learning to drive. I even enjoyed my Mentor and the 7 weeks out. The school was amazing. I had no clue on how to drive a stick. My Road instructor was GREAT. He definitely earned his pay with me.

What was the reason for the safety hold?

:biggrin_2557:My husband quit JB Hunt to come to Swift. He was to start orientation the week I came in to test out. He is Diabetic. His A1C was a point to high. It was an 8 and they want it to be a 7. He has 20 years of OTR experience and over 1,500,000 miles safe driving no accidents. So I asked if he could come out OTR with me until his A1C dropped. They said it would be fine. We filled out the proper paperwork. It went to Phoenix and was approved. He even left his CDL behind and got just an ID card. I got into it with my DM due the lack of miles and the BS he was giving me. My DM finally gave me a trip that was supposed to keep me running all weekend and delivered on a Tues in Morris IL. I was to take a load from Lancaster to Pharr TX. Drop it at the export yard there and pick up an MT and head to Bishop Tx. for the load to IL. Well got to Pharr delivered and NO MT! Said they could not give me one. I sat there all weekend! Sent in my Macros and free form messages and no response! Finally Monday morning my DM is back in the office. He is P-O'ed at me!? He tells me to go back to the export yard and get an MT there, They were not going to give me one. Said that they were not supposed to surrender there MT's. I got a bit of an attitude and she made a phone call. I got my MT, a T trailer.(old) I'm thinking Ok they changed my delivery time in IL. I have plenty of time to get it there. So I haul ### to Bishop drop MT pick up my loaded trailer, send in my Macro. And get a Message back telling me to T-Call it in Lancaster. I get to Lancaster tell them that it is there and DM messages me to come in and see him. That's when he tells me that I am on a safety hold due to my Husband being on the truck with me?! He tells me to send my husband home until his A1C is lower and in the mean time he will run me local at .25cpm. I said no, no but Hell No. I told him from the very beginning that I was not comfortable out there yet by my-self. That my husband could help me with the things I was not sure about. My husband was not driving the truck I was. I am just that way I will keep doing something until I get it. I just needed help with my backing still. So he told me to clean out my truck and call him in a week. That should be enough time for my husbands A1C to come down...NOT. I tried calling him all day the 5th of July. I left messages no call back! That was the reason for the safety hold. They lifted it so I could clean out my truck.

Sorry to hear you guys are having such a bad time. My experience with Gary has been much better. One thing I have noticed with Swift is each terminal is its own little entity and does things its own way and a lot depends on your DM. My DM and FM both used to drive so I'm sure that has a lot to do with why they are so much more on top of things.

    Problem found.

By telling them you need your husband to "help" you, you've essentially confessed to not being qualified.

    inkeper Thanks this.

So being honest about ones ability is a short coming to Swift. Seeing how they were the ones who trained me???:biggrin_2552:

They trained you ... you successfully completed the training. They tested you and you passed ... Now YOU say that you don't have the confidence to do the job.
