That's $2.15 a mile gross, excluding deadhead. Which I'm sure is still better than what Swift was paying him.
What I'm still unclear about with Landstar, is where does the trailer usage fee come out, if you're using their trailer?
Landstar is getting cheap.

That $2,800 was just for 1 load. For the week I'll end up with about $4,800. But then yes ill split it up just like u didgokiddogo, Dave_in_AZ and Scooter Jones Thank this.
-
Yes thats what i get after they take their cut. But i still have to pay for fuel for the tripDave_in_AZ Thanks this.

I was only making about $1.20 per mile at swift. That fee is included in their 35% that they take from every load.Dave_in_AZ and Scooter Jones Thank this.

35% of 98%
-
No, it % is of 100%.
The % of 98% is the old contract, there are still some bcos running under the old contract I believe. -
If open deck you rent from them and get something like 75% of the load. If dry van pulling their trailer they don't rent them, instead you get 65% of the load.Scooter Jones Thanks this.

For an independent you have to keep at least $4k weekly after fuel, otherwise you are working for a company driver salary
easytopleez33, gokiddogo, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this. -
No doubt there is a lot more costs involved as an independent.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

well lately I have seen the prices leaving California dip below $1.60 unless you are going up there in the snow. so what I end up doing is taking a decent load into phoenix then try to get a better load leaving out of there.
