Landstar is getting cheap.

    As I said in another thread, the truck to load ratio out of California was up to 100 trucks per load this past couple of weeks. It's seasonal. Soon as March gets in full swing that will all change. Until then, I'm home doing very little of nothing ;-)

    I agree with this comment totally. The guy aforementioned runs only in a 250 mile radius. Deadhead works in that situation, but what if your truly over the road? I'm a company driver for a mom and pop but they treat me like an O/O. Florida is a notoriously cheap place. It's no way you'll profit coming out of there. I went down to Fort Pierce from Boonville, AR. I believe that load paid 3600. I had to deadhead back up to Jacksonville just to get a load to New Orleans. That deadhead was 200 miles roughly. They couldn't have me deadhead much more than that because then the good money made going in gets cancelled out. Besides, when guys do all this deadheading to get a "good load," do brokers pay for all those miles, or just the loaded miles? If you factor in the deadhead with the loaded, that makes the "good load" appear cheap, I would think.

    Trailer is already taken out. We get 65% of the line haul, 100% of the accessories ( mostly ).
    If you want to pull your own trailer, you get 72% of the line haul (van), and 100% of the accessories (mostly).

    I like pulling their van, cause there is A LOT of pre loaded freight that you cut yourself out of if you are pulling you're own van.

    Landstar is bad. We have too many as it is, please go to Mercer or Schneider.

    Meh. So many experts on how Landstar works, but none of them work here.

    I've seen very little loss in coin, because I've never been afraid of the winter.

    Truck ratio is up in California & Arizona because of all the wuss's afraid to get their skirts dirty.

    Landstar is bad. We have tooooooooo many as it is. Mercer and Schneider are good.

    I've DH to SoCal before, from Phoenix. Not as a plan, because something got screwed up in a larger part of my plan.
    There's a couple dudes that offer pennies to go from Phoenix to SoCal, and they can keep that garbage, I would spend the $100 for fuel and drive over there empty before I indulge their fantasy $1 mile freight.

    Here's a news flash, if a load doesn't cover deadhead out of a deadhole it isn't a good load. $3 a mile on 1,100 miles into Florida sucks for most of the year. It's a typical rate that it doesn't cover enough deadhead out of there. It also doesn't even mesh very well with the normal $1 a mile reload Florida freight or the "good stuff" paying maybe a $1.50 a mile out of Jacksonville going to another deadhole. If you can't go empty to Atlanta at a minimum from anywhere Florida you went in too cheap. Yes brokers pay to cover a lot of deadhead on loads going into Florida almost every day it's nothing extraordinary. As soon as they run out of suckers it's what they do, business as usual.

    That's almost 3 dollars a mile which seems to be on the high side these days. How much should a driver accept going into Florida?
