So by now, you're all aware corporate is offering free EOBR's. I was curious as to whether any of you plan on signing up for one. I know it's the biggest battle in the industry right now with threatened government mandates, so I was just curious if you were going to take the opportunity to get the free one, or if you were like many of heard from in the facebook groups about not wanting "big brother" in your truck?

I am new to L/S but it was brought up at orientation about the different models and I sort of been toying with the idea of getting the next step up. It supposedly has truck specific gps (for the people like myself who cannot read a map the greatest in the world) and wyfy and it is about $500 more if I heard correctly.
LSAgentOZR Thanks this. -
Not a chance unless it was required for a dedicated year round account.

Interesting that they are doing this.
Makes them one of the few companies that are going to step forward and take the cost instead of the driver. Actually says much about them. -
My guess is they did this because they got a very good deal on a mass purchase of them and they are working to improve their CSA score. CSA is getting everyone, and Landstar is no exception. We're still better score wise than almost all of our competitors, but we're teetering. My belief is corporate thinks if they can get some of the newer guys to switch over to EOBR, this will help because "logs not current" is our most severe violation.
-
That violation is one that all companies on paper seem to get.
-
The cost with some services isn't that much . Xata has no upfront costs and only adds $15 a month to the carrier phone bill for each unit .
-
Fine for the carrier. But for the owner where they will transfer the costs too, is the part that many do not like.
You mentioned on another thread about 26,000 lbs being exempt. Just curious where you might have seen that. -
Somebody wanna take a minute to explain what EOBR is & what its about? Admittedly, I'm out of the loop on this :smt102

An EOBR is an Electronic On Board Recorder. It's an electric log that automatically downloads and warns you when you're running out of hours. I've heard in some extreme cases it'll even shut your truck down right where you are. Not sure if that's true or not.
