I am not sure that Landstar or any carrier can legally force owner operators to install EOBR's unless it is mandated by federal law. At this point, it is not a law that every truck should have EOBR's. I would not lease to any carrier that would try to force me as an owner operator to install an EOBR.

Yeah, I think I mis-spoke. I don't think they are requiring that. Anyone know if they require e-logs?

I spoke with a long time BCO this morning and he didn't know anything about it. He has been leased to Landstar for about 6 years.

If it is in the contract the owner operator signs, then it could obligate the owner to install an EOBR. However, it could also raise a question as to whether the BCO was an employee or independent contractor since Landstar would have more control over the movements of the truck. I would doubt that Landstar would want to open that can of worms unless it became mandated by the feds. -
o.k. called Landstar this morning. Landstar was going to make all new BCO's get onboard recorders but decided to wait until they are mandated to do so.
D.D.L. computer logging is also acceptable to Landstar.donkeyshow72 Thanks this. -

Yes it does. Thank you.
I would not want to park my truck 15 or 20 minutes from home and have to return to it the next day to get it because I would not want somebody to decide to go and steal anything out of my boxes or mess with or attempt to steal my load or parts of it. Where I park its locked up and there is a couple dozen boats that would catch the eye of a person more then my truck. -
I have run electronic logs before. The system I had there was a line 5 for off duty driving. You can drive up to 50 miles on this line the only draw back is that you would have to return to the place where you started using the line 5 option before going back to regular logging. So in essence, if you were 30 miles from home you could use line 5 to get you home and line 5 to return to where you started using that line after your home time.
