Just stating my own Opinion of Landstar after 22 years of being around here. But i better not talk ''truth'' about Landstar. You understand people have rose colored glasses on when it comes to tha Al Mighty Landstar.

This is the same Landstar that yells and pushes ''Agents'' to put there freight on ''outside'' qualified carriers, because L/S makes more PROFIT.I see how the Al Mighty Landstar loves it's BCO'S....ROLMFAO....

Like i said before.Landstar is ''ok''.I have worked for better and worked for worse.Right know it works good for me,because of the ''freedom''.That is the only reason i stay.It is not the Money..LMAO...Landstar's 72% and 65% is way to much to take from 7,000 or so BCO's...

    Again,this is IMO...

If you think that Landstar is so bad, then why do you stay with them? While I agree that taking 35% off the top is a lot of money, those who lease to them know what they pay before they sign the contract. There is no need to complain about the money if you know up front what the company pays. I have leased to Landstar and done business with them as a carrier. I don't see that they are any worse than any other broker or carrier. Most of their people conduct themselves in a positive business manner. There are a number of positives. I like the idea of them not standing over your shoulder while you try to run your business. There are other carriers around and you can always get your own authority. I would not stick around with any company that I didn't like. It costs a lot of money to run a trucking company. Agents find the freight, operations processes the paperwork and safety makes sure owners run compliant. That takes people and all must be paid. Then there is the cost of insurance. That is never cheap. Landstar is a very profitable company, but all the services cost money.

There is nothing wrong with making a good profit. Landstar does offer trailers for owner operators to pull. They also act like a bank where they pay BCO's and others before they receive payment. If you lease on to them, you agree to the terms of their contract. You are not forced to sign contract with them. But, it is a waste of time and energy to do business with them and then come on here and trash the one who writes your paycheck.

There is no point in telling the ''TRUTH'' about landstar. Keep messing with people's livelihood and give them FALSE information and lead them to a possible destruction of there life in trucking. That is not responsible.

I will post my latest loads and all the deductions and people will get a better idea of what they are up against here at Landstar.I will even show them the 'load board''.Maybe then the drivers who are thinking about coming a board can make a sane logical decision about Landstar.

But please do not mess with people's livelihood with your rose colored glasses on.That is irresponsible and unfair to the new people.GIVE THEM THE FACTS...!!!!!!..This is the least we can do to help future drivers make a logical fair decision. This is there LIFE. And many of these people have kids and a wife and family.

It is not all sunshine over here at Landstar. It is a fantasy to keep telling people about all the ''good'' at L/S.So please start telling future BCO's about the ''faults'' too. This is fair and balanced...And That is why I am here.To give the future BCO's the real Facts of Landstar.the good, the bad and the ugly.

I must be doing my part.I get alot of PM's from guys/gals wanting to know the FACTS about Landstar. And i am so pleased to give them my breakdown sheets,my weekly 1099,my loads,my deductions and L/S Deductions.I give them true TRUE NUMBERS not made up Figures,to satisfy my belief system that Landstar is the best.Giving the real numbers to me is fair and honest.I hope they can make a better decision based on Honesty and Facts and TRUE NUMBERS.Not just some BS being tossed around on a forum board. With me they get ''true'' solid numbers..I see no harm in this and welcome new people and future BCO's.

To me that is being responsible...If ''truckers report'' or any other organization wants to toss me out for speaking the ''TRUTH'' about Landstar, then please toss me out ASAP.But rest assured that every driver in the ''real'' world will see every peice of paper i have and will be given the true numbers before they make any moves about coming to L/S. At least they will see it all on paper and the real numbers...

I've never understood the math behind the statement, "If I make more, I'm screwed, because the IRS will get it". Even if you are subject to a 30% rate, which most are not, that is 70 cents to you and 30 cents to taxes, for every dollar of profit.

Me neither.Maybe ''screwed'' is the wrong word.I would say the ''screwed'' defines a person paying alot of Income Tax back to Government.I have to keep it low or i would pay alot of money back to IRS...We can only ''write off'' so much of 150,000 with paid for trucks..I would rather show my ''net'' at 20,000 than i person whom shows 80,000 net profit...

The truth is there is ''good'' and ''bad'' in every place people work..So it comes down to picking your poison..Some guys would run from L/S and some are Life long L/S drivers..

This fact does not make them right or wrong does it.?..It is what they percieve and what there needs are at the time.My cousin was with L/S and left. Now he has a union job making 90,000 a year..I would say in his mind he made a great choice as he seen it.I told him he is crazy for leaving L/S back then..Well i was wrong. He is doing better than most O/O's and home everyday...

My husband and I just bought our first truck in FL and are TX residents... we were working for Express1 and like them very much... however, we are having a hell of a time getting plates (temporary or real) because we do not have a home to show residence in TX or FL and our company wont send us temp plates to get to MI to return to work... we "quit" in Dec to take off the winter. If you know how to get temp plates, please advise... or, we are considering applying to Landstar and thinking since they are out of FL (where we are currently and our truck is located), once we go to orientation (if hired), they will give us the plates... is this correct? I guess better question is how in the heck do you purchase a new truck and get it back to work? We have no plates and it is sitting at the guys house we bought it from... we like Express1, but they are lowering their pay... and, our contract has a few issues... 1. If we break down, we are responsible to "rent" a vehicle to complete delivery??? 2. We use their trailer, but are responsible for the tires??? and 3. The pay per mile will be $1.25 cpm plus fsc... I guess thats not too bad, but it was $1.40 when we decided to purchase our truck!!

You may be able to get a temporary tag from a truck dealer. may also check with a local tag office to see if they can issue you a temporary tag to get the truck home. As long as you have the paperwork where you just purchased the truck the dot may not bother you. Of course, you could go around all the weigh stations, if that is a concern. If there are plates on the truck from the former owner, perhaps he will allow you to keep them on the truck in order for you to get home. Most states now require truck owners to prove residency in order to get base plates. You will need to either have authority or a lease that shows you will be operating under another company's authority. You will also need a receipt from the IRS which shows you have paid the 2290. The former owner may give you a copy of his receipt. It can take a while to get through the approval process with Landstar. They do have an orientation center in Jacksonville. Actually, it is just south of Jacksonville. You can get your base plates through Landstar once you lease on with them. They will deduct the cost from your settlements. Landstar pays percentage, so there is an opportunity to earn more money. Landstar now requires that all new owner operators install EOBR's in their trucks.
