Lane match is your friend when starting out. Narrow it to last two or three weeks

I wish they will have me working 80 hours per week.............than I will take $180.000 in my pocket.Last time I was in NYC Nj area was when I was slave at LANDCRAP(LS) and they use to tell me that if I don't pull any load this week, they will take Trl. from me.At $250 per trip from North Ma to Maryland minus all LS deduction and $4.75 fuel per gallon plus toll and the load was canned food...........I will pass it any day to LS lovers or so called free people.:biggrin_2559:

Found a load to SLC for $2200 gross line haul. Took about 7 phone calls but its a light load, 7000LBS, and has a flexible delivery date.

You are putting yourself in a very dead spot for vans except for CGI stuff. I have a favorite search saved as "Inbound Calif" that I look at when I want to start working my way home......then I will usually pick a load that is a week or so out and try and work myself to that load as best I can......sometimes you have to go backwards or sideways to go forward but the idea is to keep running for a decent buck until that good get home freight falls in place or you can choose to DH to it as need be. I also have a search saved as "Outbound Calif" and then also the rest of the Western 11 states except Calif so I can work myself in a circle if at all possible. the problem with LS in the West for vans is most of the area is dead except for SoCal and Vegas, a bit out of Phoenix and sometimes up in the NW.....again, right place, right time.......research, in your spare time if you see a load you are interested in but it doesn't fit right now call that agent and find out if it is regular freight, how often it runs etc. etc. If you just take whatever comes along then don't expect much....you have to "make it happen" for yourself, that's the way it is here.....used to be you could make a pretty fair living off of the load board but now in this day and age of brokers and 3pls 90% of the stuff there is leftovers that nobody wants, especially out west.

Im curious to know, what do you old hands consider a good rate? Coming from a career of running chemicals @ .90¢ or $1 a mile plus fsc, $2/mi to the truck would be primetime to me. I started flatbedding 6 months ago and now im going thru the qualification process for ls, hope to make it to orientation soon, but would like to know from some experienced bcos what should I be looking for rate wise?

I see CGI has those FedEx loads back and forth from SLC to the Denver area. So I hope to turn some of those for awhile. I will send them an email once I am loaded to SLC about me doing those runs. Will follow up with a phone call.
