The last two years I did 2.10 and 2.12 per odometer mile. Whether you can do that, do better, or do less is up to you. I pull step deck.

Pulling a van (live loads only) with an older contract I run consistantly from $2.25 pm and up all in, I own my trailer so I get 75% of 98% and my costs are fairly low so I can keep myself as busy as I want and make some decent money at those levels. Not saying I'm setting the world on fire but in this day and age it doesn't pay to bust it anymore unless you want to give it to Uncle Sam. I'm getting more picky what I haul so I do sit more than I used to but still gross around 110-120K working on average 8 months a year.

All in means before LS cut and fsc is taken out......so the math for me on a 1000 mile trip at 2.25 and fsc at .50cpm would be:

    gross l/h 2250 - 2% = adj. gross of 2205 - 500fsc = 1705 adj l/h rate - my cut of 67% = 1142.35 + 500fsc = 1642.35 to the truck plus 1705 x 8% = 136.40 to the trailer = 1778.75 total ttt

Ive heard many say not to focus on cpm. For me I prefer to view it that way because I know my cost of operation broken down to cpm. 1.90 too 2.10 is what I hope for. I can operaye for less, but I would rather not. I have a dedicated route pulling dry van, but it just pays the bills, im not getting ahead.

To break everything down to basic cpm is IMO the most accurate way to figure out cost/revenue per category for bookeeping purposes and producing a P/L statement........remembering that my deal is more $$$ for less miles.......you can't beat that business model !!!

That is to the truck after LS's 27%. I was paid roughly $150,000 last year, drove roughly 70,000 miles per my odometer. Simple.

In your opinion does step deck or flat bed make much more then vans? We have flatbed exp, but being a wimpie woman, my hubby ends up doing most of the strapping, chains, tarps... I can help by bringing him the stuff, but tarping is a real pain. Do you tarp much?

I've never pulled van here and don't run team, so your results will vary greatly from mine. From what I've seen, teams do very well here. I tarp about 80%, but haul 70% of my freight for one customer that requires everything to be tarped. I had a female friend that worked here 8 years pulling step and didn't own anything but a couple steel tarps like SHC.
