The load board rate is all in LH,FSC and extras. When you go into the load details you will see that some agents show a rate breakdown with everything seperated.

It really comes down to this, there are two groups of O/O's. Business owners that use a truck and a well developed plan to make money and company drivers with a truck payment.

Not sure on the LS requirement in regards to having an FNG as a second seat in a team operation. We have a team freight base and Im sure one ofthe team BCO's will be along shortly with some advice.

With two years in your qualified but LS is picky and they really take a long hard look at potential BCO's. Its never to early to get started and there is alot you can learn before you put in your application. My plan (and you should have a plan) would be to start thinking about what type of operation you want to have. Everything you need to form your business plan (and you should have a business plan) will be based on your operation model. There is a ton of great information available here,it gets a little rough from time to time but you will get the help you need.

So do you want to be a business owner that uses a truck as tool to make a good living or a company driver with a truck payment?

see there you go with the good stuff again. I have been looking at land star for a few months now, they definitely offer what I am looking for, solo and team. I drive for prime inc now, yeah, one of those guys, gotta start somewhere though. im a lease guy, didn't run a company truck, would have gotten fired within 3 months, guarantee it. I run a pretty tight operation with this lease, its rough though. the fixed expenses are way high and the revenue is too low. plus with the dispatch system here its hard near impossible to keep a good base rate running. it do or die if you turn down a load. I average 1.75 a mile gross with 4800 A MONTH in fixed expenses. I do pretty good, average about .45cpm bottom line and fuel cost is .50. looking into trucks that are known for fuel efficiency but I want a good mix of pulling power as well, top end I could care less, I stay 55 to 60 like the other guy on here. I could run numbers on here all day business plans but you would all fall asleep well befor you got to the end of that post. I did a good post on the baseline expenses forum here though.

You posted before I got finished but the "good stuff" is always worth reading twice.

No judgement on your being with Prime,I got my start at the JB Hunt driver training academy in Lowell,AR back in 1990. Back in those days it was JB this and JB that and yellow doors this and yellow doors that and oh yea if I had a buck for every time some ###### yelled "he's backing up" over the CB whenever a JB hunt driver started backing up I could have retired years ago. Its all good,I have over two million miles and except for a few very minor equipment damage claims and one ticket from back in 1995 my record is spotless. I attribute my very successful driving career to the strong foundation I built on thanks to the training I recieved from good ole JB.

You seem to have a good idea of whats going on,knowing your numbers so well puts you ahead of most O/O's and sadly some of those are BCO's. I would get going with LS as soon as you can. Your revenue will be much better and with the way you seem to control costs your only losing money being anywhere else as an O/O.

As far as driving fast I have posted before that the Teamster outfit I was with for 17 years had all the trucks set for 57 on cruise, top end was a mind bending 60. I have an old US Express truck and I never had the computer changed so my top speed is 67. I average 57 and my 30 day average MPG is 7.72,slow and steady makes for some really good numbers.

If I remember correctly the Petro (Milan, NM) was only 1 cent cheaper with the LCAPP discount than the Pilot in Jamestown NM. I just put 50 gallons in since I knew I was going to be stopping at the Winslow J and needed a shower.

When i started with Landstar two months ago I got stuck with a roller van. Nobody wanted to load it and it took trailer utilization almost three weeks to finally get me a regular 53' dry van.
