That's not bad, that would put me in the 36K range. I would still rather a flatbed, especially if I get my hands on a nice shiny new one!

milskired Thanks this.

Are their new flats combos or all aluminum, set spreads or moveable? A lift axle would be quite splendid as well haha.

If they ordered the same as last year, they'll be 48x102 Fontaine all aluminum Revolution. No boxes or lift axles. I think SHC said they weigh around 8500 pounds. To get one as a new guy involves luck or coming in right as the order is ready to be picked up, and luck.
milskired and Battle Born Thank this. -
YOu can make money with the old LEAD SLEDS, I did at first. The new SD are nice 53x102 combo decks, can locks. There are a bunch that came in with full wood floors, which are real nice. but same as the flats no boxes no ramps but the do have dump axles.

My 13 Landstar step is 51' like every other one, and it does not have an axle dump. I typically keep the rear axle slid to the tandem position 90% of the time. I haven't seen any all wood decks, that isn't an option from Fontaine on the infinity steps, but neither is the 51' unless you have a minimum order, so there may be a few out there.
As to making money, I didn't notice any decline in revenue when I sold my 48' step and pulled a red sled. I've pulled less than five non permitted loads over 45k in the 1 1/2 years I've pulled a company trailer. -
My buddy has one with the all wood deck and dump valve they are 14 models that where special order for what he told me was mil spec, they requested the all wood floors, That's what I was told anyway they could be 51' I assumed they where 53' from the way they where laid out. Either way nice trailers for a combo unit

I just paid off my l/p truck and am now waiting on the title from Roehl. So it is time to get things rolling towards Landstar. I am waiting on my DAC and just downloaded my psp and next will be putting in my official application. What I need to know is how much downtime from the time Roehl pulls their stuff out of my truck to my first Landstar load? How much upfront cost will I have with Landstar, things like plates, insurance, deposits, etc.? What are they looking for in the truck inspection, in other words how perfect does the truck have to be? If possible I would like to get some of this such as the inspection and drug test out of the way before leaving Roehl. What is the drug test, hair or just standard dot test? Think of my questions as coming from someone who hates surprises. I want as much information up front as possible, which is part of why I spend time lurking and occasionally posting.
