Just to make sure people know the truth about landstar and other brockerage companys just like landstar lots of loads pays only for the truck and nothing or just about nothing for driver(BCO) or even better, you might have to put some money from pocket to make that load happen.Ironic but real. They pay you $2 a mile or better to move from A to B then from there god knows. So whatever big profit you make from one load, you might verywell spend it one other loads. This is a scam.:biggrin_25526:

i would not call it a scam...i would call it trucking...you need to know the tricks and the treats.
landstar is not a scam they are upfront about all the facts of what they do(mostly nothing)
i have said it b-4 and will say it again, landstar is not a trucking company

Yes,I'm still a BCO with landstar and not for long.I applyed at many other companies for a new job, just to leave landstar. Not much its gooing out there right now. Many companies are paying at the same rate of the years of '90s.At least in 1990 I paid for fuel less ,something like under .90 cpg .But anyhow,if you hold a stady pay check were you are, stay there. If you wanna make a move, make it smart, something like practical and empty dispach miles paid and fuel surcharge. You won't make tons of money but not like at landstar, tons of unpaid miles of your pocket and tons of hours on internet looking for a better pay and not to mention how many day you might sit in cab just, maybe just may get a load(not the one for free)just to make it at the next so promise load.Just make a better picture, after you been sit in a front of your laptop for half a day let's say, from 7 am to maybe 2 pm and you got a load, get ready to drive.Go to shipper fast, fast, fast,to get loaded, then start drive because your log shows that you are in 10 hours slepper but actualy you been working for free for half a day.D.O.T don't know this until somebody will make a disaster. Then the truth will speack.Tons of hours for free, tons of miles unpaid for free.If you lucky to drive, lets say 3000 miles a week, make sure to add another 500-700 for free and this a fact, not another story.:biggrin_25510:Maybe landstar was a good company ,but right now..........trush.
I will call this company a scam, since they don't tell their future BCO what it takes to make it from one load to other and how much money their future BCO might loose, not make.Landstar its a good company living in truck, not for people with house payment or families responsibilities. If you wanna make money, landstar its not the place, landstar has some owner operators making money and those owner operator has been with landstar since 1970's.Those loads are for them, lots of their agents are BCO also and their wife are the dispacher or grandpapa:biggrin_25526: and if I get the job tommorow I will list just few of their agents with this kind of operation.Their best paid rate its only for their own truck and left over its for BCO.Spread the word about landstar,so other owner operator will not suffer.Thank you.

Well, since freight has slowed so much, I'm back to trucking. Landstar found out and cancelled my agent contract. Seems like they didn't care that I was not making any money brokering freight. I think they wanted me to sit in my office everyday not moving freight and go down with a sinking ship but I couldn't do it. Freight is bad everywhere right now. I am pulling a reefer and have had some good loads but I also do more sitting than I would like to do. After I pay my truck payment and other expenses, there is not much left, but I guess a if I'm paying all my bills and still have just a little left at the end of the week, I can survive till freight picks back up. I don't think it's gonna pick up till about the end of summer so batten down the hatches and quit wasting money guys, it's going to be a HOT summer!!! Perhaps when freight picks back up, I'll get back into brokering under my own authority. All these companies make too much money and pay the O/O just enough to keep him on the hook. I have seen some of the trucks and LS and I often wonder how they keep running down the road.

Let us not forget that these are gross quotes. Landstar will take their cut of the top. As much as 35% depending on your lease. That would apply to most drivers unless you own a trailer.
"Generally speaking", net rate to BCO's is running 20% under what could be considered a break even point for the "average Joe".
If a rate looks good, I'll bet pounds to a penny that it goes well into a dead zone. Beware and be patient.

We been at landstar for 5 years now and the good Lord is the only thing keeping us going. It's hard and it takes every contact I've made over these past 5 years to even try and stay afloat.

So many agents are cutting freight rates, or just don't have the same loads every time.

Things are real bad at most large companies right now. Just remember, LS does not own anything, so they can walk away from it all and leave the BCO's hi and dry.
