I have a question for the fellow BCOs in here. I recently suspended my authority and decided to lease to Landstar. Up until this point, I had my own CT HUT and NY HUT account. I am currently still running my own IRP plates & IFTA.
Since I am now leased to Landstar, do I need to cancel (file final return) for CT and NY and just use the permits provided by Landstar? Or do I need to keep these accounts open and "switch them over" in some way.
Also, I'm looking to get a KYU number as a leased-on owner operator but their only system is telling me that I can only register as a motor carrier (my FEIN is already showing in MCIMS as a carrier). Any advice on these? I'd appreciate it.

I eventually may just let Landstar provide plates. I'm on the fence about it.

So you don't have to file or pay anything for those states?

NYHUT is just the permit as far as I know.

Connecticut has per mile tax now so if you go through there, yea you have to pay.

I'd be guessing if your way is cheaper. I've no point of reference.

    You could try contacting permits.

You can't have a kyu number as a leased o/o.

Even if you have your own plates landstar should file your ifta....(as least they did before when I was leased to them)

I cant speak for CT but your NY sticker is for a carrier only....which LS does this.

    Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

You can keep your own plates if you want, or get plates through Landstar. All the permits, mileage taxes, and IFTA are handled by Landstar.
