Landstar Questions

I don't pull vans and have not kept up with their rates. I do have a friend who runs his own authority pulling a van. He is averaging around $2/mile for all miles. He mostly runs in the Midwest and down to North Carolina. He usually runs from Pennsylvania to Illinois and down the North Carolina. If that were a landstar load it would pay the truck about $1.30/mile pulling their trailer and about $1.50 with your own. Now, that doesn't include pulling out the fuel surcharge. I would expect that rates after Landstar got their cut to be somewhere between $1.30-1.70/mile. The thing about Landstar or any of the percentage carriers is that you can find a wide margin for rates in most areas. It will be up to the BCO or owner operator to find those better rates. Unless you are a self starter it could be somewhat difficult for you to do well with a carrier such as Landstar.

If you want to lease to Landstar I would suggest that you get in touch with their recruiters and have them do a printout of loads in those areas. They have been known to pull a "snapshot" of loads from their internal loadboard which has the rates posted. If you do that you should understand that the listed rates are "gross" and doesn't show the actual pay to the truck. If you plan to pull their trailer then you will receive 65% of that rate. If you buy and use your own trailer then I believe they pay 73% of that rate.

 

Can anyone give info on agent out of Gadsden, Al. (GAD) from a driver (BCO) point of view. Thanks in advance ...

 

One of the better agencys. They still do auto loads that pay pretty well.

I have talked to many people and all have said good things about Landstar. I have checked the forums but I have not heard from anyone that is based in Canada who is O/O with Landstar. I am waiting on the info packet to arrive in the mail, so that I can check things out a little closer but since I found this forum I put the question out there....
Is there anyone here based in Canada doing OTR for Landstar?
Own your own Trailer and if so... Multiaxle FB, SD, Van etc etc What kind of trailer brings in the most freight with Landstar? I read in another forum that a O/O left landstar because of the lack of FB work.... This was an old post though.

I hauled some of their loads when I was leased to Landstar. They usually had pretty decent rates. They are one of a small group of agents who haul tires for Goodyear and Kelly among other types of freight.

 

I'm a Landstar agent looking for BCO's who want to run regular freight at good rates out of California (It's Hazmat) or FB/Step/Connie guys who want to run out of multiple points and make some decent money. If you're interested, PM me. I prefer to work with BCO's over contract carriers. The FB stuff is NOT Hazmat. It's typically shingles and again, the pay is pretty decent.

Depends on the point, but usually over $3 a mile. Sometimes less, sometimes far more.

Anyone know about Landstar in South FL?

I keep seeing ads all over my local Craigslist for the company, is this a scam to get drivers or a legit ad? I know Florida isn't freight wonderland in the U.S.
