It's not as simple as getting over $2.00. You can get over $2.00 taking short runs but that's probably not going to bring in enough money for the week. You can get over $2.00 going into a dead freight area but then you'll end up taking up the butt getting out.

The BEST run you could get would be to run coast to coast and back again for $2.00 a mile.

You can spend a lot of time and the logistics are hell doing short runs. Trying to get loaded, hurry to make a delivery only to find there's 10 trucks ahead of you and now you have to cancel your next pickup. Go to a truck stop and now it's too late to find another load for the morning. The stress will definitely take its toll on you.

Usually the longer the runs the less they pay. You can make some good money by taking a load from lets say OH to WA for $2.00. Doing 650 miles a day on a 2,500 mile run and loading on Monday morning should get you there by Thursday or early Friday. Also allows you to look for another load for Friday along the way. Sitting for days waiting for that $3.00 a mile run instead of taking a $2.00 will cause you to miss out on at least $500+ a day profit so in the end you may do worse.

I know a Landstar driver who's probably been leased on longer then anyone. He sat for 8 days in Laredo waiting for the rate he wanted. Just stupid.

Why is that stupid? My friend Tony says it best: "I ain't workin' for free". Why run your truck for no money?

Have to disagree. If you know the area you can pretty much get what you want. You can sit in Atlanta, Various Cities in Ohio, Chicago, Carolinas and wait for the $3 mile load & odds are it will pop up. Would I try that in Florida, Texas, or Northern Plains, probably not but it's all about knowing the lane & market.

That's true. Those are hot spots for freight but if your in a bad area that's not going to happen and sitting is going to cost you way more then it will to dead head out or take a cheaper load.

Morals don't pay the bills. Poor planning if you have to sit for 8 days.

The thing is before you book a load, look at where you're booking to see if there's any decent freight coming out of the area.

Or, you should already know what kind of freight is in the area where the load is going….. If its a really good load, and you take a few minutes to look at the destination area freight…that load will be gone…….

lol, i can tell you all about how fast those loads go off the ls board, i get a alert, try to ck the destination for a min to see whats around, then go to get the number and hell, its just gone, cant be no more than a few mins.I wonder if the guy that just snatches it up thinks about dead areas and dh miles.
