i have a question for landstar o/o with the stepdecks? is the freight good over there i am leased with a company now pulling a covered wagon and freight has just about stopped for me.i have my ls application here getting ready to fill it out.i was just trying to get some answers like do you have to have your hazmat before leasing on and how long do they hold back on the pay? just anything else i might need to know good or bad.i have been driving for 9.5 years so i know trucking has it slow times, but i am only getting 1 or 2 loads per week where i am now.thanks for any info.

I pull a flat at Landstar and I have stayed as busy as I want to be. You don't have to have your hazmat indorsement when you hire on but you have to have it within 90 days. You will be paid weekly on whatever paperwork you turn in. I ran my own authority for 5 years and I love it over here.

They told me that i had to have my hazmat before I got the lease. however I just hired a driver on my truck to get him into the system and they told him that he had 90 days. He got it anyways for the extra option of hauling Hazmat freight.
I pulled a step when i first leased on with Landstar. Freight paid more and was lighter but not posted as often.
I switched to a flat and have been busy ever since.
You get paid once a week if you scan your loads on time. Get a scanner in your truck and you're golden.
You can aslo get up to 35% advance on any load that you book. Which is always more than enough for my needs.
Hope this helps. -
i ran with a driver this week that was leased to landstar,he was pulling a double drop, but he said that he also had a stepdeck, also told me that he had a scanner in the truck and would scan his bills in for payment.i like what i am hearing about them so far i am going to fax my application in tomorrow,i talked to the recruiter and she did tell me that i had 90 days to get my hazmat, which i already had my background check done. so they sound pretty good.
