Like in my post about Oakley

I have been bit by the truck bug

I can get my truck payment as low as 850 if I want to I have chosen 1100 to pay off quicker but can change terms at any time with my finance company

Landstar. Is my other option I was looking at

I like the dispatching of my self more of a true independent feel . I am computer literate also . So no problem dispatching myself etc.

My questions to landstar BCO's current

What's the % of drop and hook freight ?

What kind of fuel discounts rebates u see ?

Any hidden fees they don't tell u about ?
    I know about
    Baseplate
    Insurance
    Landstar load board charge

Reason I wonder bout drop and hook to see if it makes since to buy my own trailer for the 71% instead of 64%
If lots of drop and swap it doesn't but if you are shuttling free empties for them midas well shuttle your own if dock time is the same ..

    Thanks in advance

First of all will Landstar sign you on? You said you have the trucking bug. I think they need recent over the road experience thay they can check on for the past two years I think.
I have been at Landstar for ten years and I can tell you it is different for everyone. It depends on where you are and what agent has drop and hook. I would tell you to pull a company trailer for at least six months and see how much d&h you do. Then you could put your trailer on if you want. The thing with d&h is if you have any bars or straps you always have to move that each time you trade trailers. If you go to Larado you may have to wait for a mty trailer.
There is alot to learn at Landstar. There are so many opportunities you will need to take time to find what works for you and what does not.
The LCAPP program with Landstar as far as fuel goes is great right now. The other parts of LACPP with tires and other thngs is also a good deal.

I got the truck bug ( buying a truck)

Been a company hand over 11yrs

I am approved through landstar etc ..

Would like to get some additional info from u such as

    Current fuel discounts?
    Tire discounts?
    Maintance ?

Do u think 800-1100 on a truck is too much to carry into a deal with. Landstar and be sucessful?

    Thanks for your reply

    Ok I see.

Fuel: Best deals at TA and Petro right now. When fuel is dropping in price you get the best deal. I save about .40 off the pump price today.

Tires: You get a good deal with LCAPP.

Maintance: I guess that depends on what you buy. I change my own oil and such. Big stuff I go to a dealer or my local guy that does good work. A guy you cab count on to get you going near home is important to me. Most shops charge about $90 / hr.

Buying a truck: My last truck I got because it looked good and was real clean but the guy that had it did not really maintain it. Have someone you trust check it out first. Have it put on the dyno and see if it is doing what it should.

are you seeing rates on the upword turn and rising this far?

If u pull a landstar trailer
    Do you ????

Pay any dot tickets issued to their trailer from inspection etc?

Are u compensated anything if their trailer causes u to be down mechiancally ?

U reccomend qualcom with them ?

Do they offer a parperless system for logs ?

    short answer....not uniformally

no, its mine, like it or not

i know they will pay to get it fixed, but i think if you got a ticket while pulling it, isnt that kinda yer job....to make sure its legal to pull?

    LOL......I DOUGHT IT

if your not doing A&E you dont need it......besides...why give them somehting else to check your logs by?

no, but i think they will allow you to use DDL, and send them copies

right now i wouldnt do it if i were you.....all we are doing here is adding capacity, and helping keep rates low
check out the BCO forum, it almost completly landstar BCO's
landstar is losing o/o's as fast as they are hiring them on, and theres a very steep learning curve here......that in itself tends to do alot of folks in, nevermind the cheap and almost non-exhistant frieght

I have to go with all this said. If you make good money as a company driver stay there till the economy gets better. At least you wont loose everything you have. One more thing about rates. They seem to go up and down. One day not so bad then the next day same area the rate sucks.
