I would look at scanner apps if you have a smart phone. I use smart scan and it works very well

I found an app, which is called Adobe Fill and Sign and pretty much stopped using printer since
double yellow Thanks this. -
I use printer for various things as well. Printing permits for states that wont accept digital permits. Also comes in handy if you only get 1 copy of the bol and you have a multiple stop load.
As for printer/scanner. They are all junk. I've bought the $225 online delivered to the house, and the $29 on sale at Walmart printer/scanner combo's and neither did any better than the other. I've tried Brother, HP, Lexmark, Kodak, Canon... 8 - 10 months is all I get out of them. I found it easier to buy the $29 Walmart special and just throw it away when it needs new ink cartidges. Cartidges cost more than I paid for the printer/scanner.
As for decent laptops... thats a loaded question. I dont mean any offense... but I'm assuming you do not know much about computers. When shopping for a laptop.. I look for one that has a rugged case, a real full, size keyboard with cherry keys, at least an 8 cell battery and an anti-glare tfs screen.
The the rest is pretty mundane for simply a business laptop as even the lowest spec'd system today will run anything regarding office/trucking sofrware. Unless you want to play high end video games.. you dont need more than 4 - 8gb memory, you dont need a high end processor, you dont need a stand alone video card.
The one thing I would recommend is one with at least a 250 - 500gb SSD drive vs a much slower mechanical laptop drive. 2.5" laptop hard drives are notoriously sow compared to desktop models. The hard drive is usually the slowest componant in a computer. An SSD drive is like night and day quicker than a mechical. That.. and no moving componants to get damaged while riding around in a bouncing truck.
A decent laptop for strictly business use should not cost more than $450 - $500 for a good one if you buy online. Brick and morter stores will typically be $100 - $200 more for the same laptop.
I'm using an older high end laptop. My wife will be buying me a newer version for Christmas.
Its an MSI Dragon gamer edition.
i7 4700hq processor.
24gb DDR3 Ram
2x 1TB Samsung EVO 840 SSD drives in a raid 0.
Nvidia 780m video card with 3gb ram.
Its over kill for business things. I have it mainly for video games to play at max resolution. Cost $1699 almost 2 yrs ago. Showing its age in a few things. My son will get this one and I'll have a new toy to play with after Christmas.

Drive Axle for a smart phone app. I was told to get it but I'm not impressed by it. I take a pic with my phone and then email the pic.

laptop..... dell is the best...pc magazine did a torture test on laptops and the only one still working when they were done was a dell.....part of the test was to take a RUNNING laptop and set in on a 6ft step ladder over a concrete floor and push it off........did it f up the laptop yes but the dell was the only one that still worked with that said I use HP and this Aspire One
scanner Neat Receipts portable usb powered scanner..... not cheap at $149 BUT whet you are getting is a good scanner and GREAT software.... after you set it up check with your accountant as to how they want it.... when you scan things in it will put everything in the right file by date, dollar amount, fuel, repairs.... at the end of the year just copy to a flash drive and give it to your accountant.... they will love it.....
printer...... I use a canon PIXMA ip100.... color/black & white..... it will work with AC power or Battery....battery will print about 100 pages per charger (battery is extra) and you can get a Bluetooth for it (Bluetooth is extra)
with the scanner and printer you can do copies
the laptop scanner and printer will all fit in a standard briefcase
