Walgreens is staffed by CPC Logistics nation wide. Unless they eased up on requirement, it is 25+ years old, 2+ years of experience, clean background, good credit score job. No paid CDL training. If they have the same managers in place as of a few years ago the south west wallgreens guys are more apt to put you on if you speak Spanish.

Guys, everyone here has been tremendous, can't thank you all enough for your input and taking time to guide a trucking novice like myself (old man 53, BS Finance degree - spent 30 years in corporate America, laid off years ago and ready to get back at it)...hoping to try something different and enter the trucking industry, but WOW, I have to be HONEST...

As a pure "numbers man", I am scared silly, after reading the HORROR STORIES from multiple websites, THOUSANDS of posts, watching 100's of YouTube videos, etc....I mean 95+% NEGATIVITY from every angle in the real world usually holds merit.

I have a family, wife, son, younger daughter I need to provide for. Money has run out and I need to be back to work. At my age, corp America is not in the cards..........I checked locally, I do not qualify for Govt CDL funding because of my DEGREE, lol.

Here's what SCARES ME.......being in Las Vegas, I had narrowed my "Paid/Sponsored CDL" choices to the usual 4 suspects....Prime, Roehl, Swift, Werner....(and yes i looked at MANY 30+)

BUT, after digging much deeper, the REALITY sinks in that in fact - once we sign that contract - we truly are INDENTURED SLAVES for 1-2 years, to be used/abused tossed aside in anyway the company sees fit. Mass turnover, fast burnout, abuse, low miles, broken promises, unbearable living conditions, and as many have said, just a disposable by-product to be tossed aside, while they collect their Gov't stipend, expect you to quit and SUE YOU on the back-end for your CDL ( prob making MORE money from student fees than actual shipping!).....in other words, its almost as if they WANT you to fail. It truly is a pure NUMBERS GAME ( to the advantage of the megas), with an unbeatable business model. Churn...burn...sue...collect.

I think the ASTUTE @Chinatown suggested I obtain my CDL on my own (i can't afford, so maybe financing?) and try to get an IMMEDIATE paying gig as a student....

ANY suggestions?........Are there better companies here in Las Vegas or Charlotte, NC (thinking of relocating there) that would hire a complete NEWBIE fresh out of CDL school without long term commitment?

My feeling is that when a company KNOWS you can freely walk away (without owing them the world), they invariably treat you with slightly more respect and humility.

sorry for long rant....but I just don't see the viability of making a decent living ($50K net) if you go the route of paid CDL.........if anyone qualified can correct me, I'd like to hear you chime in.....thanks again, Mike in LV

Don't listen to the crybabies. The worst crybabies are drivers that wouldn't leave trucking for the world; they just like to whine and "beach."
Charlotte, NC is rich in good paying companies that hire new cdl school graduates.
    Here's a few:
R.E. West - free cdl school with no contract to sign.
DHL Supply Chain - accredited cdl school grad.
A&S Kinard - trainee program for new cdl school grads.
Superior Carriers - $85k PER YEAR.
New grads from select schools. Call for list of schools.
