Anyone but Werner Trucking!! -
Watkins Shepard, we have a terminal in Las Vagas. Also May Trucking and Gordon would also be good to look into...
American Trucker -
a former co-worker of mine, moved down to that area, and he had gotten himself a job driving for a company that supplies linens to the area hospitals/clinics. now of course i will not know what that company name is, but look up in the yellow pages for "hospital linen supply" or something like that. he (to the best of my knowledge) drives tractor-trailers. that area of the country being much better space-wise regarding streets/loading docks, compared to up here in New England, should (i would think) make it easier for you to get a class A job. -
You will be fine. I had just turned 21 when I went to trucking school and have been driving ever since. Your best bet is going to be finding a job with a smaller company. Their insurance is usually less strict then the larger ones.
A.T. recommends Watkins Shepards. I have actually been surprised as to how happy all the drivers have been there. Either they don't know the difference or are being paid off! (just a little joke!) Seriously, I have been reading a lot of different posts and the miles seem pretty decent for all the new drivers. Pay is on the low side but I think they have a lot of multi load drops and I believe you get paid per stop also. Maybe A.T. can chime in here and be a little more specific for you. The only downfall is that they do not train you. You have to have a responsible head on your shoulders and even a trucking or mechanical background. They don't hold your hand here. I wouldn't recommend this time of year to venture out on your own but since you haven't even been through school yet I don't think there is a need to be concerned. By the time you get through school it will be spring. If you are interested check out some of the Watkins threads. Also try looking at careersingear or bigrigjobs. On these sites you can type in where you live and it will tell you the companies hiring in your area. Welcome to the forum and good luck to you!
