I drove city bus in Denver for a few months. I also drove sightseeing for Greyline for several months, on a part time basis.
Fact is, that I just couldn't stand dealing with people. Particularly with Denver Transit. (Denver Transit, should give you an idea of how long ago I'm talking about....)
Oh sure. So is a blast furnace.
Actually, I just love that line, and use it every chance I get.
Yeah, it is pretty much a dry heat. But you do have the humidity move in during the monsoon season. Usually July and August, but can stretch either direction. I've not been in Vegas during a monsoon storm in probably at least 20 years. But back then, you really DID NOT want to be in certain areas of Vegas, during a monsoon.
I know they have done some major flood channel work there. How well it does what it's supposed to do, I don't know. I'm sure @Chinatown can give you a much more accurate report on that than I can.
Meh, if I lived in Vegas, I'd not have any lawn. It's desert, man. So desert landscaping fits right in. And requires minimal care.
But you'd be wise not to buy right away, no matter what your reason is. I've seen too many people move to Vegas, thinking they were going to paradise, only to up and leave in less than a year's time.
Las Vegas local.

I keep thinking about the Night Train linehaul gig. Seems really basic if the run into LA isn't to ridiculous. Preferably in and out at night.
I will admit the heat take some getting used to, but I would leave behind the white ####.
Might even be a compromise to sleep during the day and be a night driver out when it's a little less hot. -
Where would you be running to in LA? To many people, the entire basin is called LA. Big difference between oh say Santa Fe Springs and say Downey.

I was vacationing in vegas a few weeks ago and saw a yellow Volvo sleeper w/a 53 ft heading north on the strip down by the Excalibur. Is this common? Figured trucks would avoid the strip at all costs

Most do.

I think Phoenix may be better but is much hotter. I figure Vegas is really a trucking dead zone for the most part and still has a lot of teamster influence on good gigs. You should't worry too much as a Trucker though no matter where you choose to live you can get a job somewhere.

@JudahMourn try CPC Logistics. They do Walgreens nationwide ... 65 to 85k a year job. Usually at home every day / night. Unload is done at stores with totes down roller track. They hire in Vegas every once in a while.
