Sure, if you're firing subsonic ammunition. But the vast majority of ammo is supersonic, and will make plenty of noise. It just suppresses the source of the round being fired, not the crack of the sound barrier being broken.

It just doesn't add up is all. This guy had it all. Certainly wasn't race motivation.
The thing that gets me is he ( supposedly ) then quickly kills himself.
Armed the way he was, his intellct, resources, why not a grand finale with the SWAT team or ATF?
No way this makes sense.HotH2o Thanks this. -
That sir is total BS. Had you mentioned the ammo requirements to quiet a gunshot, or just how hard it can be to get an AR to run on subsonic I might have believed you actually knew what you're talking about.
-
I'll agree that it doesn't make sense, but does a mass shooting EVER seem logical? I have zero evidence to support this idea, but my gut is telling me it was done to support an agenda.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

An AR, yes. But I'm doing my research on getting a suppressor for my .22LR, and yes, they CAN be nearly silent. But they also barely penetrate a Carhartt jacket at that point, either.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

I heard they located the shooter's room because his smoke alarm was going off...as for a motive, people are stupid
VIDEODROME and AModelCat Thank this. -
Somehow I doubt 22lr is going to be the round of choice for a mass shooter.
-
It's not. But my point is that he was partially correct.

Makes perfect sense. If SWAT got involved, he no longer is in 100% control. The point of a mass shooting like this is to play God. He could not play God if he took a bullet from SWAT. Had to be from himself.
This is psychology 101 stuff..... -
I'll bet that he lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in just the last few months and probably had lot much more over the past years. To the point he'd just about blown his wad.
I figure his gambling problem escalated rapidly the last year and he had a huge losing streak in the last month or so [probably at that casino] and he finally said screw it.
