As I understand LASIK the most common effects after surgery is long-term you will need reading glasses as you age. Without LASIK you will likely need reading glasses as you age. It's pretty common after surgery for you to see a halo around lights at night. Even the airlines and military will now accept LASIK for their pilots. These surgeries have been around long enough I think it's safe to have them. To me it still seems a little silly to pay $1-2k to avoid buying $300 glasses every couple of years, but the older I get the more I understand getting rid of glasses for all but reading.

By the GRACE OF GOD, I do not have any eye diseases whatsoever, (macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, cataracts, etc.). I do have some astigmatism with some farsightedness. Over the years, my nearsightedness corrected itself. I do need bifocals for close up reading.

Personally, I would NOT touch LASIK surgery with a ten foot pole. The risks are way too dangerous, as mentioned in referenced articles earlier in this post.

I am not a lasik man, it's irrevocable once done and it has to be done right. Even if it was, there is a risk. It's not worth it.

I don't mind glasses. But I did get cataract and they cut one lens out and put in a artificial one that changed the vision somewhat for the better. The cost of that one eye was around 16,000 dollars so.. there is that. We were double insured and it was free for me. At some point the other eye will form a cataract and they will do the same thing when it's time. Some of my family had them decades ago, but the medical technology to fight them with surgery was not as good as it is now.

I already have other issues with the eyes, primarily related to 3 months premature which in the 60's is not survivable usually. I had been pretty lucky over the years with trucking. It's not easy. I already had laser administered to the eye that started forming a injury type film that interfered with the vision shortly after the cataract surgery. They were able to burn it off. But it's a precision procedure that can go wrong really easily.

I consider the surgery a life saving one. I would not be here without it.

I was all set to do lasik this year. I set aside the money in my medical flex spending account and everything. As i got closer to pulling the trigger on the procedure I spoke to a few folks with less than favorable results and started reading about dry eyes and seeing halos at night.

Spent like 1500 on three of the best glasses lens crafters could make and got two years of contacts as well. Gotta say, the lenses with all the options on em are pricey, but #### nice.

I just couldnt risk the 5% chance of screwing up my night vision.

I can see, I can see :hello1::hello1: Well I had lasik done this morning. Wasn't bad at all... Rather quick. From the time I walked into the doctors office until the time I was walking out was about 20 minutes. The actual procedure was very short...They gave me a volume as I walked in the door to relax me for the procedure. It was a little nerve wrecking when I laid down and they put the machine over my face. The doctor pulls your eyelid back and tapes it to keep it out of the way, then places an object that kind of reminded me of a contact lens on my eyeball, then drop eye drops on it to numb it before the do the "cut" or "laser" treatment. Left eye was 9 seconds of scraping and right was 7 seconds...

Leaving the doctors office was a little rough. I could barley keep my eyes open, I wasn't really in pain it was just a annoying feeling. They kind of burned a tad bit and it made my nose run a little. It was a little scary not being able to really see, that's when I kind of had some regrets going through my head. Obviously you cant drive after the operation, having someone bring you is a must.

Its been about 8 hours now, my eyes seem to be getting better now in terms of blurriness and the kind of annoying feelings that come with the operation. I've taken a couple of naps which has helped. I did just go out to dinner and the only thing that bothered me was the brightness outside with how sunny it is. From what they say generally at the first night of sleep, I will be pretty much back to normal and within the first 1-3 months my sight with dramatically improve as the eyes heal. I shall see.

Price was $3700. I did my research on the particular doctor who did mine along with being referred by a couple of people who have had successful lasik done by him. I'm sure you can find it cheaper and also more expensive. I was comfortable with the price. I do go back for a follow up first thing in the morning where everything Is checked and if a touch up is needed it will be done. Hopefully one isn't needed.

If anyone Is interested in the Doctors name who did my procedure you can PM me and I will give the information out. ( No I don't get paid ) I had it done in Northwest Indiana about 1 hour away from the city of Chicago. I will update in a week or two how good my sight has become. :headbang:
