Major releases of Windows are like Star Trek movies; every other one sucks.

Not surprisingly, every other version tries to come up with something radically different.

Windows 8 is a tablet OS that MS is trying to sell as a desktop OS. Great with a touchscreen; not so much with a mouse.

Windows 7 fixed most of the new-but-broken stuff from Vista. Here's hoping that Windows 9 will fix Windows 8. Until then, I'm staying with 7. Or XP...

    CondoCruiser and 123456 Thank this.

I still run XP, the one I bought with Vista was upgraded to Ultimate, and I use Linux on that one, boots in a fraction of the time.

I've never really taken any time with Linux. Would it run on a net book do you think?

    Hey Don,

I just upgraded my laptop and it's got Windows 8 on it. Do you know anyway to drop that and just use the regular desktop. I don't have a touch screen and so far, don't much care for the tabs....icons....whatever.

The only thing Windows 8 is good for is a pad device and for social networking, email, web browsing, etc. If you need a machine that can be a workhorse when needed, and can be depended on to run current and legacy apps, better stick with Windows 7 (and move from Vista if you haven't already)

    CondoCruiser Thanks this.

Ya, they call that the new "Metro" interface. However, it can be made to look like Windows 7 with some tweaks.

In addition to the CNet link that Mark posted, check out an excellent post from Aztech on just what you are talking about right here: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...193552-windows-8-launch-news.html#post2898252
