After a few years of otr flatbed driving, several months of debating with the wife and two O/O friends, countless hours of praying to make the right decision, and many weeks of one minute saying yes and the next minute saying no way, I have become my own boss as an owner operator of my truck. I bought an older FLD 120 with a small Detroit 60 series 12.7 and a 9 speed tranny. The chassis has 975,000 clicks, with an over hauled replacement engine and trans with 300,000 turns on both of them. Almost new rubber all the way around and a new clutch installed 60,00 miles ago. I'm contracted with a container hauler out of St Paul, MN. and have been running with them for 5 weeks. Had to have a Very fast learning curve on the container gig and rode with one of my friends who has been doing the same thing with the same company for over 5 years. So far...so good. Still praying a lot and hoping I have made the right decision. Will try to keep you posted as time and energy allows!:biggrin_25524::biggrin_25525:

Well. congrat's! i.m.o. if your going to jump in, that's the way to do it. an older truck without all the fancy expensive look's. detroits are good on fuel, easier & less expensive to work on than some others & parts are available everywhere. same with the truck. there are a lot of threads on here with new trucks that have problems, that NO one can diagnos. with your set up, any problem that you may inccur, has already happened to others & most all truck shops will know how to fix yours. best of luck. :biggrin_255:

Good luck. That's the only kind of luck that counts.

You might try a Rand McNally for assistance with your location. But seriously, good luck.

Lots of luck... you will be needing it.... this economy is as tough as I've seen it in my 38 years in the biz.

If you make it you will be in the minority.
