I think Big G is more a regional gig anyway, right? Those dudes have their own ruts on I81...

3000w inverter maybe asking a bit much in a company truck. Usually if they have them they are usually between 1500w and 1800w

I went to school with a guy who went into the apprenticeship pretty much right out of high school. Yes, he makes good money at the top rate but much like trucking it's feast or famine. Bennies are awful to boot. $40 an hour pays 0 if there's no work...just like trucking. heh

Since your single and are going to try this, I personally think you have the right perspective and are asking good questions. Get in a company that has the things you want because they do make it more bearable. It took me a year and a half before I could afford to install a fridge and it is awesome. Running dry van will show you the ropes for quite awhile till you get trained up and see if there is other options for you. Money isn't everything. That refrigerator will save you some to. I pull a van and when I set those brakes at the end of the day, I am home in my truck. Then I do the things I want to do. Some people live for trucking. Trucking allows me to do the things I want to.

As a union electrician working commercial or industrial i did make good $$. A typical 40 hour work week would would give me around $850 take home plus all my benefits like annuity, pension, vacation, and heath care. However as Longarm said.. If there is no work it dont matter how much you make. That is why i chose the huge pay cut and was working residential. It was $300 less a week but paid all my benefits and i did not have to collect unemployment 6-8 months out of the year. I will still keep my union ticket current so if work got better or i decide i hate trucking i can always go back to being an electrician.

I am located about an hour north of Pittsburgh, PA

Thats why i am asking these questions. Finding a company that pays decent cents per mile, has good equipment, will get me all the miles i can handle, and allow me to be comfortable in the truck is proving difficult since i am a newb. I have saved about $2500 to spend on items i may need in a truck such as inverter, fridge, microwave, slow cooker, truck GPS, CB, road atlas, bedding, and what ever else i decide i want or need. I would have had more but spending almost $7000 for CDL training made a big dent in my savings. Hoping my willingness to run for weeks at a time with no set home time, and willingness to run entire country will be rewarded by more $$ in my paycheck.
