Well if your negotiating skills are anything like your typing skills, no wonder you're sitting.

There's a host of things you can/could do, but Im not even gonna list them because you wont do any of them. You're gonna sit and eat it like they want.

Well, if he can show up whenever he feels like it and still get unloaded, why not sleep in all the time? Who cares if there are 20 other drivers that get delayed because of it? They don't matter. Let's get him unloaded so he doesn't think we're picking on him. Or, so he doesn't go on a forum and cry to everyone like a millennial.

When there are appointments and that person misses it, he/she goes to the end of the line. If the end is 5 days later, so be it. He/she can then go to his/her "safe space", get crayons and a stuffed animal, and cry about how the mean receiver didn't treat them as special.

Wow a lot of crap being talked about. Some I bet never faces this crap.

To the op, there isn't an excuse that your late, I wouldn't even offer one, I would have said to the consignee that it is a refused delivery, that's it, I would have told the broker that if he or she doesn't get it into a dock, it goes back to the shipper and you will be billing them for the full amount and the additional time. I would also never use the broker ever again if they don't get this fixed.

If you can't afford to bring the shipment back and absorb the cost, then you should not be doing this.

And it is another issue where the owner needs to have the capital to absorb costs that come up.

Four skids? Ridgeline is spot on, consignee refused and take the four skids back to shipper. You should have already been on your way.

5 days is too long. What if they told him to wait 1 month, which is just as unacceptable as 5 days?
What if you ever happen to catch a flat tire, or catch a diarrhea delaying you, or a blizzard... would you be so willing and understanding to wait 5 days too? Oversleeping happens to human beings just like headache does or getting sick. That was 1 hour not 1 day, he says....It sometimes takes 1 hour to get through a Walmart gate. The receiver is an a...hole and I wrote down its name Food chain company (Southhaven, MS) not to ever book any loads there.

My initial reaction would also be to take it back to the shipper, but do they always have to accept it back?

If this is a “fresh” load they are probaly rejecting it anyway after sitting 5 days.. I sure hope it’s dry or frozen

It's not the fact that shipper will take it back. I had a similar situation once. Receiver said I am late (broker messed up setting up the appt) and told me to come back on Jan 2. Since it was just Dec 24, I called the shipper and said I will bring the load back (almost 700 miles). Shipper said they won't take, because it already has been sold.
Broker told me to keep the stuff in the trailer until it gets unloaded and did not want to help with anything else.
I found a storage to keep it there for $500 for a week, but decided to try with receiver again. Went there in the evening again, the night shift supervisor said they might take me, but she does not guarantee it.
At 3 or 4am they knocked on my door and got me unloaded.
Since then I avoid JB Hunt brokers and any other food loads with appt times

Once they reject it, then it is simple, the broker is on the hook for all the expenses and the product gets disposed of at the discretion of the owner.
