Mercer is always stating they want everything inside the rails and I don't blame them. The oversize I strapped this morning has the straps outside the rails or they would be pulling the load into the center more then they would be pulling it to the deck. Then my straps may not be pulling down with 50% of the load.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it

blind driver, remember even though dot says that, mercer can do differently and they do. they want em inside the rails when ya come thru Louisville for inspection

Even on a OS/OD load????

My line of thinking has always been that rub rails are there to protect your securement from getting damaged should you rub something, hence the name. So why place put straps or chains outside of it unless necessary? I take pains to even keep my bungies inside of em as much as I can.

It wasn't legal until '06 when the reg changed. Straps are preferred to be inside the rub rails.
Company policy may vary

Oh alright that has always been strapped like that because its a 96" wide. And most of the time it's its over the rub rail

well im glad this issue can finally be put to bed, im sure it will still come up, when it did with me i just pointed to the sticker that said the rub rail is rated for 5400lbs WLL

If you rub your trailer against something, you got more to worry about than just some cut straps or bungies.....GR8, not4hire, Dangerous1 and 2 others Thank this.
