Maybe it's safe, don't know, but you couldn't pay me to go into Mx there.

DO NOT CROSS THE BORDER. We met a great couple at Texas Road House. Sat at the bar for dinner. They are Hispanic and he is a Border Patrol agent. They said they used to go across all the time but have not crossed the border in eight years and would not even think of it. Way to dangerous.

Some great restaurants in town and you can park (if bobtailing) all over the place as there are so many trucks.

Cross at the pedestrian bridge at Pedregal St. Once you cross 2 and a half blocks down is La Mina Bar&Grill. Great place with good folks!! Another block down is Burger King and its TOTALLY different then an American one!! Directly behind the Burger King is Cadallic BAr and Grill and they have 25cent domestic and live music!!

Its not dangerous until you wander deep into the city!! Stay around the border area and you will be fine. Everyone says "they heard" this or that but only one time have I run into a problem and that was because of a loud mouth LandStar driver who was wasted running his mouth when our group was heading back to meet up with Cowboy(the guy who used to pick drivers up at the Pilot in that van)

I lived in Yuma and went to MX all the time, good food and cheaper too. Been to Laredo a lot of times and stayed out of MX as the fod was as good on US side. I never thought of border towns as dangerous but then I was in Vietnam. You could get killed over there, or worse!

There's a good restaurant with a bar in it. From the truckstops, head south on 35. Take the exit for Del Mar Blvd. Turn left onto Del Mar, and cross under the interstate. After you cross under, there will be an Exxon / Burger King on the right. As soon as you pass Exxon but before you get to El Metate, turn right into the dirt parking lot. Pass behind the Exxon, and then the restaurant I'm talking about (Los something or Las something) will be on your right. It sits next to the Exxon and faces the access road, aka San Dario Ave.

Oh, and if you're in the mood for x-rated fun, there's always City Limits, across from the Pilot.

Or you rent a room in a hotel and go swimming in the pool.

Once I was picking up at a produce house in Nogales AZ and the fork lift driver who was a White guy told me crossed several times. I was like "isn't it dangerous?" he said "no it's like any city in the states." Another Hispanic acquaintance I used to work with said just don't wear any nice jewelry or flash large amounts of money and you'll be OK.

The Family Garden Inn is a great little hotel downtown with a pool and an awesome happy hour every evening. Free beer, hot dogs, popcorn.

    Also free laundry

Yeah, I don't hear much these days about violence in Mexico like I used to a few years ago. But when I do, it's usually Juarez ( across from El Paso) . Some years back, it was either Laredo or Juarez. I live in San Diego and I would not go to TJ at this time. It's just too crazy down there. ( at least the potential's there) . The latest thing is kidnapping a Gringo and holding him hostage. The drugs are still a huge problem. I think the new Prez in Mexico likes to keep the violence "under the radar" so to speak. I mean, tourism is the only thing keeping Mexico alive. And a little manufacturing.
