That's what I think too. Ill go to a farm and fleet type store. Get 5 gallons.

this is not the rear seal. OP what is the mileage of your DD15 ? Close to 800k ?
-
it's not an inspection hole. that place is for engine barring tool.
-
392k. It's a 14.

I’m just going by what I was told. The OP seems to have a Freightliner Cascadia like mine. I bought that cover plate some time ago.

ok.
stop the engine and go under the truck. put your finger into that square hole. if you see oil is coming from inside then you have bad rear seal or cracked grear housing. I don't think you will see oil in there. this oil is coming or from fuel pump shaft seal, or from fuel pump big o-ring , or from air compressor big o-ring. 90% you will have leaking oil pump shaft seal. Mine is leaking too. ))) Sometimes oil pan gasket leaks from rear corners and create this kind of mess. Also check to see if this oil is coming from rear area of valve cover.Last edited: Apr 27, 2019
77fib77 Thanks this. -
All good advice. Just seems odd that the leak didn't show till replacement of rear seal. I know oil blows around and makes a mess, but follow up on that mess and see if any other areas look clean that are bolt together with a seal or gasket in between. Sometimes right where the leak originates will be cleaner. Except for the oil of course. Like clean oil coming out.
