Dont look at the tach, look at the boost gauge, keep that gauge as high as you can. As long as you are putting pressurized air in the engine, you are making torque. If you lug it or get to the top of the torque curve you are not as efficient as you could be. If you are going to error, do it on the side of too many RPM, you wont hurt the engine, you just wont go as fast. On the other hand, lugging an engine that does not have gear down protection can overheat the top end and cause engine damage.Numb Thanks this. -

One thing that helped me out that I had to learn on my own was flipping the switch to split the gear just as you slide it in to a gear. Also being a 18 speed I would imagine yours is gonna be pretty close to the same as my 13 there is about a 200 rpm difference between all the gears on the high side of the transmission. Also be very gentle with the throttle. Don't get frustrated and learn from your mistakes. Also shifting at a lower rpm while your learning will help to at least it did for me.
Hope this helpsken83 Thanks this. -
