    Hi everyone!
I'm writing to ask for some help for my brother.
He's been driving for about 4 or 5 years now. He works for NFI. He originally got his license in Utah, but he lives in Chicago. He never got his Illinois license, (don't know why) but now he's here testing to get it. He's failed twice.
I know he knows the stuff, and he's been cramming with his wife, but I think he's failing because of his learning disability.
Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions? Is there some kind of special help he might get so he can pass the exam?
He can't afford to fail again and wait the required 3 months to take it again. He'd probably lose his job. Not to mention he'd have no income.
I'd be so grateful for any ideas anybody's got.
    Thanks.

In NJ persons with dyslexia can have someone read the ? and answers aloud to them for stationary engineer test.My friend passed his test that way.Don't know if the same applies to Cdl but it should. It has something to do with with federal disabilities act .Check your state DMV for info.

I've never been to this kind of forum, and I really don't know too much about using forums at all, but I thought I'd give it a try.
    Thanks so much for replying.
I was thinking about calling the DMV myself. My brother doesn't have dyslexia, but something else. I also thought maybe I could ask for info. from the Mayors office for people with disabilities.
Does anybody think I should be posting this in one of the other forums?
    Thanks again.

No, your in the right forum. I was hoping that one of our resident DOT officers would answer this. I'll PM them and see if they can answer this for you.

    ciccio Thanks this.

Thanks for letting me know I'm in the right place!
And thanks for checking with the DOT officer.
    So what's a DOT officer?

In the Federal Regs. I know of nothing that addresses this. If it were me, I would contact the State's DMV office where your brother is testing. You need to know what disability he has. I have no idea if the disability would permit someone to help him with the test. I know in my State, that the individual can not have any assistance. For example, if the individual does not speak English, they can not have someone help them when doing the pre trip and the road test. Now for the written test I am told they give that in multiple languages, but under federal regs. the person must speak and converse in the English language.

The learning disability is a new one for me. But your best bet in my opinion is contact the DMV for assistance.

If he is able to read well, the best way to study for a multiple choice test is to mark out the two wrong answers with a black marker. This will only leave the correct answer showing.

Your mind will then only associate the correct answer with that paticular question, and any other answer will immediately be reconized as wrong.

Try this, it really works great.

    Thanks!
    Sounds like a good idea.
It's 11pm here so I'm off to bed. I'll check back first thing in the morning.
Then I'll call the DMV and see what they have to say. I couldn't find anything on their web site.
I really want to help my brother out and I'm so glad I decided to try this.
I don't know anything about this business and you guys have really been nice.
    Thanks again!
    See you in the morning.
