I've had a long standing curiosity as to what prompts people to become involved in the lease programs that many companies offer these days.
I would very much appreciate any input as far as people's reasoning (or lack thereof) for going down this path.

I can only speak for myself. I am a Lease Operator with Anderson Trucking Service (ATS.) I would prefer to be a company driver, but didn't want to wait until the economy improved and hiring freezes were lifted. I needed a job now. I did what research I could and found ATS' program to as good as they come. There have been many sucussful leases completed.

I what I commonly heard was if you get out there and work, you can make it work. If you need a lot of hometime and are lazy, they it is your fault it won't work. I, also, didn't have the magical two years of experience for they Heavy Haul Companies I wanted to work for.

For me, it boils down to two things, I want Heavy Haul experience and I wanted a job now.

For me its about the money. Even in this economy I have had weeks of $3,000 net. Granted not as often as I would like. But weeks of $2,000 are fairly common right now. I have a family to support and I simply dont have that kind of potential in a company truck.

The guy i work for leased one of his trucks. He said he would not do it now. Most people do it because they have bad credit and want to own a truck. What i see happen is you lease a truck for 3 years, have a huge payment at the end of 3 years to get that truck in your name out right, the ballon payment is so big you end up leaseing another truck and its like a endless cycle. Look at it this way, you find the same truck on a random lot for 50,000$, that same truck with a lease program could cost you over a 100,000$ at the end of the contract. Even with bad credit, you could find a dealership to set you up for a way better deal. You will need more money down.

    The worst is C.R England

The "best" is John Christner trucking from what I've heard on here.

So far, I'm hearing positives that I hadn't heard up until this time. Most of the stories you hear tend to be from the people that have had the misfortune to get involved in England's and others of their ilk.
I have a relative that is considering this and I honestly didn't know of anything positive to tell him.

That forum members is ironic in its most basic form. here we have an individual that tends to be negative, posts negative rebuttals to and about another forum member and yet has sought and found positive posts.
The one time that alladin Insane actually seeks and/or wishes to hear and read something positive,he finds it. Those that replied to his request knew that he could have turned their typed words into another of his sarcastic for no reason diatribes yet they still posted their experiences.Truck drivers never cease to amaze me and are mainly good folk.
    small world after all huh?
