Heard one OP there say he ran 170,000 miles a year and made 70K but didn't take out taxes. Thought that funny. Who the hell does business that way. He made 50K before expenses? GOSH! He was never home because I ran my Pete 130,000 a year and spent 2 days working on it when I was home, 1 day on bookwork and 1 day sleeping then back out the following day. If you can't make any more than that, go to another company. Lease options are just a way for a company to write off a truck 3 times and have you pay for them. I heard if you take your truck to a shop for $2500 in repairs JCT takes another $500.00.

A lease is not for everyone, some people can't understand business, some can. Friend of mine has very limited business experience, I have a ton. He has been driving for 30 years and me only 5. Guess what, I help him with his business decisions and he helps me if I have a driving question. Working great so far, I will have my truck paid off soon. I get paid percentage of load, run where I want when I want and have no truck payment if I don't work. I pick my loads off our load board or any other I want. I get paid day after I fax in paperwork. I make a little more than I did as a company driver, but am paying down my truck by an average of 3k a month and am guaranteed a paycheck if I do work regardless if the truck makes money or not. I decided to do a LP instead of getting a conventional loan so if I was wrong and couldn't be profitable I would not be stuck with a truck payment, I can walk away from this if I want to. I guess paying off my truck in 2 1/2 years at a reasonable interest rate, and having around 4 good years left in the truck at that point still makes me a fool in some peoples eyes, then so be it.
mattbnr, hi beam, damonarnold816 and 1 other person Thank this. -
My opinion is ppl put waaaay to much thought into being a o/o
I keep it simple...i run to make money...i pay my taxes quarterly....something breaks I get it fixed....i pay my truck note and insurance every month...i know that just because I bring home a 3500 dollar check doesn't mean it's all profit but I don't feel like crunching up numbers..
If my check 3500 I'm putting up 2k and the rest of the money I'm putting in my pocket to buy big boy toys or go shopping or take a vacation...lol its simple..i make the money to spend it lol
Others might not agree but I have other things to do then to worry about how much I'm actually making after all expenses lol..if the check is 4000 the that's what I made for the week lol....let's hit the mall and enjoydamonarnold816 Thanks this. -

A good lease purchase is more like owner operator with training wheels, it's a partnership between you and the company you lease with, sure there are fees, but the minor fees you pay gives you the ability to focus on your load, mpg's, etc. I have no idea why it matters if the company writes off the truck you're driving, people who look for a reason not to like something usually find it. I and alot of other drivers happen to like JCT, especially since I can take off a week and it only cost around 350, most of that being my personal insurance, health, dental, life ect. A contract is a contract, if it's a lease to a specific company, or a conventional loan through a bank and leased to a company, you still can't just do what you want, atleast with JCT, most of my truck payment is based on my miles per week. And as for pay, $0.90cpm plus fuel surcharge, averaging 3k miles a week ain't to shabby.
I'm always amazed when I see a post mentioning JCT from someone who's never worked for JCT. It's always the same, "a buddy of mine" story line, Smh.
Well I'm with JCT and like I said earlier, I and alot of drivers are doing just fine with the arrangement. -

So we have 1.30 for all miles.
Minus fuel which is between .50-.60 cpm
Minus taxes .05 cpm
Minus insurance .05 cpm
Minus maintenance .12 cpm
Minus truck payment .15 cpm- .22 cpm
So that leaves what .30 - .45 cpm for the driver.
I'm sure I'm forgetting some numbers in there. So that number might actually be a bit high.
For that price you should just stay a company driver honestly.Toomanybikes Thanks this. -
