If one would have the cash to purchase a brand new trailer. Which type of trailer; flat, reefer etc. would be most in demand and make the most sense to test the waters with leasing to an owner operator ?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like it's few and far in between for places that want to deal with a one or two truck operation when it comes to leasing any type of trailer.

Lease a trailer to an owner operator? ... ??
I would buy the one you know how to make money with. I know how to make money with reefers. Give me a flat or a step or RGN .. any of that ... and I am dead in the water. That oversize stuff is cool, just isn't for me.. That's real work .....281ric Thanks this. -

everybody has their own flavor of trailer. so your not going to have an answer. as they'll all do the job. it's just a matter of who wants what.
as mentioned above, one guy pulls reefer. while others pull flat, step or rgn. -
I would first find an o/o, and then buy the trailer that they want.

not worth the HEADACHES involved for the 1's & 2's or the BIG outfits would be doing it. All you need is for the O/O to decide he does not want to pay you anymore and your stuck chasing him around the country or trying to find an abandoned trailer somewhere in North America. And there are as many SHADY O/O's as there are honest ones so it does happen
fencitup and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I would also make sure that this OO is stable and knows what hes getting into and what he wantsShortBusKid, gokiddogo and Hurst Thank this. -
Unless your selling the trailer as part of the lease,.. then the only trailer I would buy is the trailer I want to run myself. I wouldnt care what another O/O wants or says. If its my trailer and he wants to make money,.. I'll show him how. If he wants to run something else, then get him to bring/buy his own trailer.
Stick with what you know makes you money.

I misunderstood. I thought that the o/o would own the trailer at the end of the lease, in which case the op would vet the o/o.

Make sure you do you're home work to who ever you lease to. From experience I can tell you it can be a headache. If you lease to a very small company or O/O you could spend more time looking for the trailer or with a collection agency trying to get paid. We use to lease flat's and step's with the option to buy at the end of the lease. The company I work for no longer does leases. If you decide to do this I wish you good luck.
