Well said...I have been keeping track of my operating costs and have NOt been running out and spending the money I bring home. I am no spring chicken and would like to think I am financially responsible and savvy... after all I do have a wife and kids to support and I will not do anything to jeopardize my ability to continue paying the bills.

    Thanks for your replies!

It's good to know people like you are out there! And I would encourage those of us who find success in what we do to share that with our fellow truckers.

I drove as a company driver for 3.5 years before leasing a truck. I started as a lease-operator August 1st.

I do put away at least 0.10 CPM for repairs, maintenance and tires. PMs and saving up for a rainy day can only help to ensure success...

As far as insurance is concerned, I only pay $197 per month for full coverage for my family (wife and 4 kids) w/ little to no co-pay...you won't find a better plan out there, but then again not everyone can participate in it.

I control my variable road expenses by simply keeping my wallet closed and getting only what is necessary, with the occassional "treat" for myself.

Thanks again for your replies. I would ask for encouragement and constructive criticism...I enjoy what I am doing, and I am good at making it a success.

You've only been leasing it since august 1st? I'd hardly call this a success yet, you gotta long way to go on that lease.....

Well, I do know that Prime is not perfect, but then again there's not a single company out there that is and I have no illusions to the fact that every carrier has it's detracters and nay-sayers out there.

I also know that a company, no matter who it is, is going to try to make as much money as possible...what organization in their right mind is going to do something that will lose them money?

Thank you for wishing me the best. I will continue to post my successes, along with my frustrations and failures in hopes of either encouraging others or in gaining knowledge and feedback from those who have been around!

Amen...I do have a ways to go on the lease (it ends February 2013)!

I guess I just wanted to share the fact that I'm off to a good start. Thanks for the feedback!

P.S. I like your sign! Reminds me of Ron White's stand-up bit "You Can't Fix Stupid"

You are not alone. I am a newbie/rookie and I have just leased my 3rd truck. I have been in the business just one year and already have 6 drivers. I am not making as much cash as I thought I would be making, however I still turn a decent profit after paying all expenses and my drivers. Like someone else said, you have to have a business mind in order for it to really work. I'm a risk taker and have been pleased with the risk that I have taken.

Tricare is great, isn't it? That is the MAIN reason I am staying in till I am 60, at which time the cost of the same coverage we pay $197 for now, will be $35...where you going to find Ins for that, at 60???? Thanks for your service brother...
