I been driving for almost 8 months as a company driver and by the time I make my year or year and a half I considered leasing a truck through lone mountain and lease on with a carrier pulling tankers...no I don't want to do it because of freedom..not like a since of pride. I heard a lot of experienced guys say don't lease a truck through the company you drive for..so I think I'm starting with the right mind set..What you guys think?
leasing after 1 year?

Yes you always have to ask the important question...."who has the control" when talking about owning the truck.
Buying/leasing the truck thru a company is a mistake. The next step is to figure out who offers the best deal/terms when buying that truck whether it's new or used.
If you've got decent credit, I'd explore financing thru a credit union as well as the big banks.
Good luck.Coyote302 Thanks this. -
IMO, a year is nowhere near enough experience to lease a truck but to each their own.

well it would depend on who your leasing on to. will you get enough mile to make it work. also make sure you have about 10k as a back up, or start up. Plus you need what about 5-7 k down. also paid by mile or percent ? If you havent, Read Iron ponys thread and some of the schneider threads as well. No its not the same but it will give you insight. Good Luck ! Keep us posted.

I purchased a tractor from northAmerican Vanlines which they financed. I leased to them, I had less than 6 mos exp driving, none over the road, and I was 22 years old. I stayed with them for 15 years. I am entering my 39th year as an owner operator.
If you have the drive and desire, you can make it work. In my case, failure was not an option.DTM, exhausted379, Starboyjim and 5 others Thank this. -
Lease it! As long as is from a 3rd party and the payments go straight to the bank, and most importantly; that you can pay it off or have another entity finance it once your credit is ready.

So how much do you know about the tank hauling industry? How do they normally pay their drivers? How much is it going to cost you to set your truck up for PTO? If you have no answers to any of these questions. You are just setting yourself up for failure.
