We are thinking about leasing from Ryder or Penske and then running the trucks with Landstar. The thinking is that most everything outside of driving and dispatch would be handled by either Ryder or Landstar.
Any thoughts on leasing through Ryder or Penske would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

You will also discover that if your unit is in for service and that branch has a large corporate account your equipment will be the last to be serviced or repaired. If you have any special equipment like a pump, wet line, air compressor on your equipment you will be out of luck getting a replacement unit if yours is down for a long period of time. They will promise the world and deliver on none of it.

Landstar will not let you lease on with Penske or Ryder trucks, time for plan B.

I don't think individuals can rent/lease from Ryder/Penske, but I could be wrong.

You need authority and insurance. If you are a driver leased to a company the company needs to approve the rental.

Now, I may be wrong on this but the reason may perhaps be because these trucks are way heavy and get horrible gas mileage (by comparison). This is one reason why many expedited freight companies don't allow these trucks. For example, once you fill one of these trucks with fuel and fill it with the client's load it's over the legal weight limit for its size and class. Saw this occur on more than one occasion with drivers who have little to no experience in this industry as a truck owner and come in to the business trying to make money off of load boards, etc. only to lose their tail with these type of trucks.

Every Class 8 truck has this potential, it is not the fault of the truck, but of the driver not knowing what he needs to know. Be that from lack of experience or from some other reason.
