doing my research I was speaking with a fairly experienced driver. Is it true u have to have a ein number and a business name registered for ur truck even though your considering leasing on to a company and use their authority
Leasing on to another company, do I need and EIN?

Just a ein number. No business name needed.
mookie Thanks this. -
Have to have an EIN to complete your 2290 (HVUT). Have to pay the HVUT before you (or the carrier, if you get your plates through them) can register the truck.
You can either do business under your own name as a sole proprietor with the EIN in your name, create a business name (DBA) with the EIN registered to that name, or incorporate (LLC, S-Corp, C-corp) with an EIN registered to that name. However you do it, though, you've got to have an EIN. -
EIN is very easy to get.

Ok I did get my EIN today it was quick and easy. I'm going to lease on to a company so. Before I register my business name with the state I want to ensure that I have to before I waste time registering a business name.

You might have to get another EIN if you register a business name. Heck, I've got 2....started as a sole proprietor running under my own name, so the first EIN is just that. Then, I incorporated and got another EIN for the corporation.
mookie Thanks this.
