Not sure how one can be home daily and regional at the same time but like I said, you got some experience from being a company driver first before you bought a truck.
Do you have your own authority?

I drove 250-300 miles out doing deliveries (lift gate @ nite). Or is that local for you?
I dont have my own authority but I'm this >.< close to applying for it. I just dont have a trailer (leaning towards drop/hook loads)
It will cost me about $5K ( $300 authority / $1800 IRP tags / $3000 Insurance Down). The feasibility of forking over that cash (even though I have it) has not made sense yet.
but I'm >.< close tho. I'm looking at DAT website right now as I contemplate -
So you're leased on somewhere then?

I was about to, until the carrier flaked out...lol
Another carrier wants me to wait another 6 months (insurance) before they can on-board me (and they hurting for drivers smdh)
I'm just watching all this $$ being made from the sidelines - which makes me wanna get my own authority -
When you get your truck on the road and start actually running your own business then come back and tell me how much you knew before you started. I guarantee you will fully understand what I've been saying concerning the matter from the beginning. There is sooooo much to learn and if you learn through other's mistakes/advice it will save you lot's of grief. Good luck, Driver!

I got my authority while I was still on active duty in the Marines, and ran cars on the weekends better San Diego and Sacramento. I had a service get me legal to start, but I had to learn a lot on my own. I ran a successful company until I had to get rid of it in my divorce 4 years later. I was never a company driver that while time. I didn't drive a company truck until 6 years after I got my CDL. So if you got good credit to buy a decent rig and decent smarts, you can be successful.

Anyway, where did you find insurance that cheap with almost no experience?nofilter and JimmyWells Thank this. -
Trust me, I'm not "downplaying" the need to know what one is doing, but gosh, this is not rocket science.
I've owned my own business now going 6yrs and my desire to diversify is not going to be affected by the expressions of "trucking is complicated"
Trucking is just like any other business, except the dummies mess up so much, that it appears complicated.
So what is there that's complicated? paperwork? hmm let me see
- IRP tags
- IFTA filings (x)
- 2290 filing
- Authority
- BOC-3
- Logs maintenance (x)
- Maintenance Records (x)
- Fuel Records (x)
- Drug Testing (x)
- Lease Agreement (if leasing on)
What's the other complications You expect me to encounter, other than dealing with crappy brokers/arrogant shippers/recievers..LOLSemperFiServices Thanks this. -
I'll be surprised if you can even find insurance & definitely not that cheap. I've got a few more years than 6 months experience & my new entrant insurance is $17,800 a year. Avg compared to a lot of others here that run their own numbers mine is in the cheaper side.
nofilter and JimmyWells Thank this.
