Maybe someone here can help me. I'm lost and the humane society doesn't know ...

I'm an OTR driver and have two Dogs on my truck. And I'm worried about states with anti-idle laws, and my dogs being at a comfortable, 'safe' temperature while I'm away from my rig, or when I sleep.

In these anti-idle states, this means the dogs would have to suffer, or I take a $$big ticket$$ for idling, everytime.

Aren't their any pet laws that can overstep this?? I mean people go to prison for making an animal suffer in a hot car! and the government is making my dogs suffer by not letting me idle my tuck in certain states. ..and of course I let the windows down, and have plenty of fresh water and a fan going, but it wont do, the truck needs to run with the AC on - it's just too hot.

Does anyone here know about pet laws? or if there's a number I can call?? I'm sorta lost at this point.

And to anyone with a dog out on the road, if you care, you need to help do something about this. These dogs cant just suffer in a hot cab all day/night.

Thanks to anyone that can help,

    Rob ~

These states won't let you idle the truck with you in the truck trying to sleep, I am sure they are not going to be concerned with a dog.

But think about it if a cop pulled up and you were sitting in your cold truck and it was 20 degrees outside 10 with the windchill and inside the truck a little warmer but still freezing they would do nothing

BUT if your dog was in their and you sitting in a nice warm truckstop eating or in a nice warm motel room for the night your GOING TO JAIL for animal cruilty.

I can understand your concern here but, at this time there are NO pet laws of this nature about this type of situation.

Still digging around, but here is something of interest.

I will search around for actual current laws regarding this though.

I take my littlest dog with me, and haven't found it to be a problem. of course, I tend to run during the day and sleep at night, and she hasn't had any problems with that. I tend to follow the idling laws and since I don't believe in idling much anyhow, it isn't a problem for me. At night, the windows are open and I seem to get enough ventilation, and only have to idle a little bit in Jul or Aug for cooling. In winter, I have a bunk heater, and she curls up under the covers of the sleeping bag anyhow. I keep her supplied with cold water, and we haven't had any issues about the temps.

Bottom line, if it gets so hot that she becomes uncomfortable or is in any kind of heat related danger, then she will simply have to stay home. But i find it no hotter in the truck than it is in the yard when she stays home, so it just isn;t that big of a problem.
