Yes. It has nothing to do with employment. The blood screen is part of a program we have called iCare. It just makes you aware of your health, what you need to work on and such. .. and also lowers your weekly insurance cost. For only myself, iCare is 19 a week, instead of over 30, etc.

yep they stab you and then drain you with this little tube. I am lucky and have good health. I have heard a lot of guys mention health issues and they work here so I don't think its a matter of having to be perfect , just not sick is my guess. I am a driver though and not in human resources so there could be a discrepency in melton's opinion. I saw one driver who just told me he was put out of service by melton CHOW DOWN on a huge double whopper with double cheese , some guys care about what they do to themselves and some don't. I like a good burger and all but if your having issues you can't turb around and abuse yourself with the worst thing for yourself. I am 39 years old about 5'11" and haven't bandt.jpg seen less than 295lbs on a scale in years and I pass no problem.

Do they do this even if you don't sign for the health insurance? Seems a little invasive.

really ? seems like a cholesteral check to me. I am going to say yes to the cholesteral check and the yearly thing is for health insurance . I have the health insurance so I expect to get one this year around christmas , I am not sure if you get one every year if you DON"T have the insurance. I suppose its all how you feel about it so I respect that if you find it invasive - I personally don't care if they find a problem with me I would rather know and get it looked at then not know wether I have a job or not is secondary to me when it comes to my health ( I am no health freak either , more careless than anythinng else ) I might never know otherwise lol

Quick question. I have a job offer with melton and wanted to know if the weather up north was the reason for low miles right now? And is it true since I live in Florida that I will mostly stay East of I35? Thank you in advance!

The reason I used the word "invasive" is because if one isn't signing up for the insurance and a company still requires a blood test (which it is) then it has everything to do with a hiring requirement and nothing to do with insurance. Another reason I find it invasive (as do some members of Congress who are beginning to craft laws to do away with this type of behavior) is because it can be used to discriminate against preexisting conditions or charge those with certain afflictions or maladies higher rates or refuse coverage completely. Some drivers have their own physicians and insurance and in such cases it is none of the company's business what other health issues the driver has as long as he can pass the DOT requirements.

In fact, if this company is demanding a blood test (for whatever reason, even using cholesterol screening as a premise) for applicants who are not interested in purchasing their insurance, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it may even possibly violate the HIPAA law since the company is placing extra health requirements above what is required by the DOT (no cholesterol or blood test required) by in essence forcing the driver to reveal/disclose private and personal health issues to non-medical personnel.

Please be more specific. In my circle of driver buddies that I chat with none of them average more miles than me , I know there are probably many many many Melton Drivers that do get more , but the 3-4 I talk to regularly get worse miles than me . Flatbed is slow in the winter is one thing , it has picked up lately , I am expecting between 2-3000 miles a week all summer , I know I will break 3000 some weeks but not many , and I know I will be low 2000's and possibly below a few weeks during the spring and summer but I will average somewhere between 2-3000 , I was told when I got hired to expect 3000 a week but that didn't happen , nor is it going to and I don't think I can get that anywhere else with the current flatbed situation so I am going to accept the current miles and enjoy the rest of the job. Having a good DM will make a BIG difference in your miles also and my new one is GREAT. East or west of the I-35 doesnt matter - most of our freight is fricken Texas and east of the 35, from canada to the ocean. My guess is you will be so sick of the midwest and east you will be praying for a west coast run for a change. I just got out of Michigan the other day and besides snow and the occasional storm blowing through I havent even heard about a weather problem this winter. I think the News dramatizes stuff but after the road crews get done you can usually get where you need to go. I am in Salina Kansas Tonight headed to Denver tommorrow and the news is blowing up about some 8-12 inches but I just think whatever , I will do what I have to do to get over there or I will park til the roads are fixed and can finish the trip.

I have to say this , we got our Blood test's done the first day of orientation and all 5 guys got them done the same time as our hair drug tests and other stuff , but I don't remember signing up for health benefits til like the 3rd or 4th day , maybe I am wrong but you make a good point. I can't say that I disagree with you on your issue's , its likely since I am not affected by it its unimportant to me but I would be against them unfairly not hiring someone because of health insurance risk. I pay 24 something a week and its only higher cause I am a tobacco user. I was told the company was self insured and we use blue cross blue shield solely as an administrator , this may be incorrect or have changed since I was told a few months ago and I could even have it wrong but thats what I remember hearing.
