Definitely not a fluke , I don't care what noggin says , Sometimes you unload on a Friday and for whatever reason you don't get a weekend load , it has happened many times many different ways such as pulling into laredo on friday and getting stuck there for the weekend or some weird problem with the unload that keeps it on your deck til monday, or a breakdown or some funky repower that you lose your load to a driver going home and get his load or empty trailer or whatever, but as far as miles go I have had more miles pretty much every week except for one since february. I unload at 9 am tommorrow and have about 1650 for the week so barring any unforseen problems I should be able to make over 2000 for the week ( unloading next monday morning ). I think all a driver at melton should expect is approx. 2200- 2500 average a week , I have gotten more and less week after week but I have been here for 6 months and put about 58,000 miles on this trucks odometer - now keep in mind those arent paid miles ( only get paid off movers miles ), so subtract 8-10% for actual paid miles.
In reference to how things are going this time of year , lots of loads are happening but you either get them or you don't, another guy may have been loaded on last friday after 1 pm , but I was not . I ran with another driver from my pickup on monday with the same shipper as mine and followed to North Carolina. He unloaded on Friday in Detroit same as me, but sat since 9 am ( unloaded 4 hours before me ) the whole weekend ,so I am assuming melton had to cover those 3 loads on monday out of chicago and sat us . I could easily be wrong but I will never know. -
Don't forget to put in for your layover.
As far as Laredo goes, they are trying to o come up with some way to have loads delivered without making the driver sit all weekend. Hire local guys, have the Mexicans do it, something... -
Thing about Laredo is no Detention pay so no matter what the delay is , you do it for free. I have been to laredo a bunch now so I am used to it , I know if I go there I am probably getting a reset and thats just the way it is. I do some laundry and go shopping , eat some non truck stop food and make it into a decent break . I have never went to the movies there but I should try to work that in next time.
