Going to b leaving Prime for a local gig, nothing against Prime, I would recommend them to anyone. Looking for any info from previous drivers or rehires who have been through this process. Just want to know what to expect so I'm not blindsided.

The old days of quitting and spending your last day on holiday rules and saying goodbye to all your friends is a thing of the past. Although this is not Prime Specific, be prepared to be escorted off the property when it's all over, if that happens. So my advice is have all your big stuff out of the truck and pack light. If you have transportation to where you are going have it ready in the event you need it.
I was at the our gary terminal (roehl) the other day and there were a couple of guys in the office ready to leave. The one was saying hold onto your truck until you are ready to leave the place because thats how its done...once they get the truck back they are through with you. Had another younger guy moving over to a local job in NY in there plotting his escape via the train to Ohare. it's about being prepared.
Its not that they don't like you or that you did anything wrong, it just seems that all the businesses are doing it that way now. Same with 2 week notice. You need to give them notice but they might grab you on a fuel stop a week early and say you're done...lol. Businesses are not nice about it much anymore, especially i think in this industry where so many move around. Until they make this workplace a place where retention is key, people will continue to move around. In an nutshell...take care of yourself, they will take care of themselves.pusherman Thanks this. -
As far as being company goes, coordinate with your FM on the date you want to be back to turn in the truck. He will have you turn it in where it was picked up, unless you want one of the other terminals, then he will probably work with you. When you turn in your truck, run it through the wash, which I would think you normally would do when you come into a terminal anyways. Clean out your stuff, and then turn the keys into Maintence. I would also take pictures of the truck, inside and out, just to be on the safe side.
Thats pretty much it. Your FM will turn off your Fuel Card and access on the date you guys pick out.
Not much sense in trashing the truck, as they will charge you if they feel it was done on purpose, also turn in your load locks, find someone to buy your chains etc lol.
Hope this helpsnewbietrucker007 Thanks this. -
Just tell your FM, they'll work it out with you. Make sure you turn the truck in at a terminal and if possible find someone to buy your load locks/chains as Prime doesn't give you much for them.
Once you turn the truck in, they'll turn off your card and what not so you can't even get inside the terminal anymore. Then you're on your own to get home. -

They used to give you half back on used but serviceable load locks. Full credit on chains in the sack; not sure what they did on used chains. RA may be able to give you an answer on current policy. You may want to swing by the house to drop off the majority of your personal stuff before turning the truck in. Take pictures of everything so you can dispute any repair charges- if you're company it should all be covered. Transportation home is on your dime.
baha Thanks this.
